The other day I came across a story in my local city’s newspaper about armed security guards at a Casey’s convenience store. This followed a guest column in the newspaper describing how this sends the wrong message. The basic premise is that of several Casey’s locations, the only one that has a security guard in Iowa City is in a neighborhood that is 25% black. For comparison the downtown location is in a neighborhood that is 4% black and has no security on staff.
