10 Weeks post op - all is well!

Post-op (7-10 weeks)

Wanted to inject some good vibes into the sub. Im 10 weeks post op - fit 28/m. Had cam shaved and labral repair in right hip. Only took Oxy for two days after op. Pain was limited. Hardly ever had to take NSAIDs. Off crutches week 3. Im doin squats now and some very light jogging - supposed to wait until week 12 for that. Ive been back at work walking around no problem. Exterior rotation is the best its been since I first felt impingement in January.

I waited 8 months for surgery after feeling initial symptoms. Id advise against deferring surgery.

Only limits still seem to be my hip flexor and interior rotation. Generally, every day is better than the previous. Im feeling really good about it and can't wait to start running again.

The stationary bike has been tremendously helpful. If my flexor was ever tight, the bike would loosen it up. Ive been doing cold soaks in the nearby river every week to cool off inflammation.

Keep doin PT and keep your eyes on the prize.

Your schedule sounds nearly identical to mine and I'm at 8.5 weeks. You give me hope for the next month! Great to hear!

Glad your recovery is going so well!! My hip flexor is also my main hurdle still so I'm glad I'm not alone but not glad you're is being a pain (and range of motion, my flexion was slow to come back and is just now hitting about 90 🙄)

I’m just about a week and a half out from my own surgery and I’m feeling pretty good myself. Stopped with the norco after 3 days or so. Been feeling so good I had a brief moment that I forgot I had surgery while moving into bed. Hopefully I’ll be where you are soon enough. Also, the rotation issues I was having pre-surgery I don’t even feel anymore. As you said, keep up the pt and your eyes on the prize!

Are you in crutches?

I had a revision because massive swelling in front of my hip, and some more bone shaved. On antibiotics because they suspected infection.

Yet a week out I can walk with no pain... Although if I overdo it I get swelling so I’m taking it easy and icing. But I could easily run if I wanted. It’s odd...

I’m still rocking crutches because I’m trying to remain conservative on it. So I still crutch walk and keep my weight bearing limited. Still feeling really good so far. My ice machine is also getting a work out after I use my stationary bike and cpm.

Do you have any pain?

I had the ice machine and CPM when I first had surgery around 3 months ago. However this revision my doc wants No CPM(except when I was in hospital) and no PT because he is worried they are causing my flare ups due to pushing me too hard.

And just using ice packs.

I’m past most of the pain so far. My dr has a solid protocol in place for pt and I’ve only been to a few sessions and doing my exercises at home. That’s not to say I won’t have some pain when I get into more intense pt, but so far so good.

I do have an ice machine, one of the better buys so far of this whole ordeal. Keeps my swelling down and allows for some recovery after pt/cpm/stationary bike. My doc recommended getting the shoulder pad for the ice machine because of how it covers the area plus I’ll get to use it for my shoulders later too.

How long are you out of work?

Any advise on sleeping? Did you use your regular bed or get a hospital bed? Did you have to deal w stairs?

Regular bed. Slept with a pillow between my legs and only on my non op side for 3-4 weeks. Fortunately no stair problem.

Good to hear you could sleep on your side. i am a right side sleeper and its the left hip so that's something that would help. Can't sleep on my back very well.

We have stairs and am determining how I am going to get to the shower lol!

This is great to hear! I’m 3 months post surgery and struggling with a lot stiffness and hip flexor pain. Same surgery. I appreciate hearing about the stationary bike.

That’s awesome news!! I’m a week and a half into recovery and I had the same issue (cam impingement and labral tear). I have very slight pain, but a ton of stiffness. My surgeon recommended I stay on crutches for 6 weeks with very little weight bearing on my right leg. I can’t wait until I’m at this stage!
