I actually kinda like Kearsarge’s appearance. Sure it’s pretty ugly at first but it’s so weird and unique it grew on me a lot.

Oh yeah, Izumo is a great ship at mid to long ranges. I thoroughly enjoyed playing through her, but the ship is definitely a bit on the ugly side.

They really should have swapped her out with a more consistent bb style to the line by now though. Izumo is so different from the style of all the other japanese bb's its almost jarring.

They very well might do that. They are switching out GK on the German line and it has been known for awhile that Izumo isn't beloved by wargaming

My understanding is that Izumo was a prototype design leading up to the development of the Yamato Class. It's place before Yamato makes sense in that respect.
Regardless, there is always going to be a weird break in the IJN line from 8-10. Yamato is very different than Amagi at tier 8 going from 2x4 to 3x3 gun set up.

WG didn’t do anything with the last batch of collab ships that came to AL. We still haven’t seen the likes of AL Marco Polo, Hakuryuu, August Von Parseval, Ägir nor Anchorage appear in WoWs yet. It’s been quite a while too, so I’m really starting to think they won’t be appearing in WoWs at all. Which is sad, because Marco Polo and Anchorage are very lovely characters in AL and I would pay a lot to get them in WoWS.

I meant more just in terms of Kearsarge getting an anime waifu version in general as opposed to getting a captain/skin/special version to go with it in WoWS

As a yammy main, the izumo was a great ship that plays identically. Stay bow in and punish all with the awesome ballistics.

Izumo is a very good ship. Less of a brawler than amagi, but a good trainer for yamato. I don't fully agree with the other gent who commented here; IMO Izumo/Yamato are ass-in kiters rather than bow-in tankers. You get to mid range, turn around, and then reverse in and fire over your shoulder. If your flank starts collapsing, you are already in a position to give up ground while continuing to fire.

The issue is that WG left the superstructure and deck so empty on Izumo and in general she has a 3D model that looks unfinished.
Where are all the searchlights and AA directors and such that a real IJN BB would have? Why are 127mm AA guns absurdly strung out in a straight line instead of staggered with half of them 1 deck higher against the superstructure like on Yamato? (Which also would've allowed the wing mount 155mm secondaries to stay in place and thus make the aft superstructure area look less empty.) Why are the boat hangars slab-sided boxes that look like shipping containers welded to the sides instead of rounded like on Yamato and Musashi?
It's not the core design of Izumo (A-140-J2) that's ugly, it's that WG hasn't done her justice.

Izumo looks like an napkin sketch of a BB, a concept which would have almost immediately been discarded.

I don't know if Kearsarge's... Growth is cancerous but at least gameplay-wise it's pretty malignant for the game.

Y’all think the Izumo looks bad? I think she’s okay next to something like the Kaiser. Or oh my god the Izmail. I wanna punt that thing to Mars. (They’re not tier 9 though I guess).

The various parts of the superstructure look a little too spaced out for my taste, the soviet BB main batteries are not very pretty to look at and I absolutely despise the sharp bend in the deck close to the bow. It's not a terrible-looking ship, but all the other T9 BBs, including the Izumo, have at least something I find actually nice to look at.

I really wonder if HMS Lion is ugly. For me, she's almost because she looks like a squishy Iowa. I also see that Zieten also looks goddamn ugly, somewhat a smashed-up FdG with one less turret, Shultz torps, Graf Spee's superstructure(enlarged), and Roon-style layout.
