I can't be the only one

food rant 🍴

I hate fruit in yogurt. I like yogurt, I like fruit, I like fruit with yogurt. I hate fruit in yogurt. My husband was trying to be sweet and got me yogurts for breakfast while grocery shopping this week since I forgot to add them to my pick up order (I do a pick up order from a different store for ripple milk and a few extras I want). The damn things all have fruit in them. Not even blended up fruit, just chunks of mushy fruit that don't belong in smooth yogurt. I tried to eat one and couldn't get through the texture, now my husband is treating me (not in a mean way) like I'm crazy. I just really really hate fruit in yogurt. And I can't feed them to my kids, because oldest has the same texture issues I have and won't touch them and youngest would have a blast painting with them.

ETA - I really do appreciate that my husband was being sweet and thoughtful, I thanked him and I'm not blaming him for getting it wrong. It's just that I really really hate fruit in yogurt.

I don't mind if I put fresh fruit in yogurt, but I don't want pre-fruited slime yogurt.

I can't even do most fresh fruit in yogurt, the texture difference makes me gag. I can eat a bite of fruit and then a bite of yogurt, it's just the two mixed together. I can sometimes do crisp or crunchy bits in yogurt like apple chunks or granola, but even that is something I have to work myself up to.

what if you run it through the blender to pulverize the chunks? I hate wasting food, but I also hate eating gross stuff. I would probably toss them out now, but back in the day when I was broke I'd have tried the blender thing.

That's a good thought, maybe I can use them as smoothie bases. Otherwise I'll just dump them and toss the containers one a day while my husband is taking kids to daycare. I just can't get through the mushy in smooth texture thing and the chunks are hard to eat around. I know my husband was trying to be nice and I appreciate that he thought he was helping though.

I don't mind strawberry and blueberry bits in yogurt, but peach makes me want to throw up. But I do prefer it without fruit.

I don't mind the flavor, and if the fruit was blended up so that it was also smooth I could do that. It's the texture difference between the smooth yogurt and the mushy fruit that makes me gag.

Yes, I feel you. I don't like fruit in my salad. I want my salad to be crunchy, no slimy or mushy things.

I hate fruit in yogurt, too. So do my kids. Based on the flavoured, but not chunky, yogurt that's is the current favourite, I'm willing to bet my husband also doesn't like chunky mushy fruit bits in yogurt.

My go to is just Greek yogurt, also due to preferring the texture, with a bit of honey mixed in. I will occasionally mix it with granola or cereal that's practically granola but I have to eat it right away. As soon as the oats start getting mushy I'll start to gag.

I knew I couldn't be the only one who gagged on mushy bits in yogurt. My husband seems to think I'm ridiculous for refusing to try and get through the yogurts just because they have fruit in them. I know he was trying to help, but I can't get past the texture to eat them.

Life is too short to voluntarily gag on your breakfast/snack.

I have GERD and the one other thing that always makes me gag is Uncle Ben's rice. No other kind of rice...just that brand. I have no explanation for that one. It's not a texture thing, the flavour is good, I just literally can't swallow it after a few bites. It's been happening since I was a kid but we didn't know about the reflux and I hadn't noticed the pattern. Best I can figure is something that they add to it to make it shelf stable or something.

Omg same, I tried it once and it was fucking disgusting. It tastes like its coated in plastic or something. Never again!

Meliadoule•

Yes! This is exactly how I like yogurt. Although, sometimes a nice curd, like lemon or cranberry, is good too. Absolutely no mushy bits!

joshy83🍖JustNoCaveMIL🍖•

SAME. Like mine just did this for me. I can do crunchy but not fruit. I can do jam but not fruit. Bleeeeeech. He meant well…. 🤮

4
eclectic_heartOP•

Exactly, if I know it's there I can sometimes do crunchy or crisp in yogurt, but mushy makes me gag. I haven't tried jam in yogurt because I'm anxious that it would be the same. He was being thoughtful, but now I have a half dozen yogurts I can't eat in my fridge.

I don't prefer most fruit yogurts, but I never thought about why until this! I like a pina colada yogurt, but those fruits aren't so mushy, and otherwise I want vanilla or cinnamon or just plain. I can add some crunchy stuff and maybe dried berries. I don't even think of myself as having big texture concerns, but this is clearly an exception.

2
eclectic_heartOP•

I've always had sensory issues, I crave textures more than things/foods and there are textures I can't tolerate. I also can't deal with things being the wrong texture, it needs to be the appropriate texture for the thing it's supposed to be. I have to work myself up to trying things that have the wrong texture.

Fruit in yogurt is the wooooooorst

2
eclectic_heartOP•

It really is. At least chunks of fruit are. I had a strawberry Greek yogurt that was blended smooth and didn't have strawberry seeds in it and it was awesome, then I could never find it again. So disappointing.

Do you have any community fridges in your area? It’s a great resource to donate what you don’t want/need. Try a Facebook search.

2
eclectic_heartOP•

I honestly don't know, I'll probably just put them in smoothies though. He knows me well and I like all the flavors he got, it's just the texture thing.

2
JuliaGulia818•

If it’s peach you can send it my way :) soggy strawberry? Burn it

2
eclectic_heartOP•

The one I tried today was a chobani flip peach cobbler one. The yogurt was good. The flip in crumblies were good. Then I found a piece of mushy grossness and it was over. The other ones are just regular yogurts, but he saw that one and knew I like cobbler, so he thought I'd love it.

BirdWise2851•

I am the same way. It's different if I add the fruit, which generally I don't, but I need plan yogurt only.

2
eclectic_heartOP•

Flavored yogurt is fine in my book, although I prefer plain vanilla generally. It's the mushiness of the fruit that I hate.

1
LongbowTurncoat•

AGREED! I like granola in my yogurt, but fruit? No, it ruins it! Same with ice cream. I like fruit, but don’t touch my yogurt or ice dream with it!

2
slettea•

Can you offer them up on Buy Nothing in your area, so they don't go to waste? I really understand about texture issues in food, so I would not eat anything that makes me so uncomfortable, and hopefully your husband will understand that just like anybody who dislikes certain foods- you dislike these. Sweet of him to try, but now he knows for future reference smooth yoghurts only.

juliemariesmith3•

Use them to make muffins! They will turn out amazing, promise

2
eclectic_heartOP•

Oh that sounds like a good use. Do you just put them in a box mix, or is there a recipe you use them in?

1
juliemariesmith3•

I just throw it in a box mix. Add a brown sugar crumble on top and good GOD

1
eclectic_heartOP•

I might be making muffins this weekend now. Thanks for the inspiration!

yellie_smellie•

I only eat Whips yogurt for this exact reason. I hate fruit on the bottom!

2
alliekat237•

Fresh fruit is okay. But generally no fruit is beat!

2
Berty_Qwerty•

Yep you can keep that slimey-ass fruit like it just slithered out of some wretched wretched placenta out my pristine yogurt. Your husband thinks YOU are crazy? Hell nah. Keep that primordial ooze fruit to yourself.

I hate to say this but I love the fruit on the bottom yogurt, I haven't had it for years

1
eclectic_heartOP•

To each their own, I still think it's gross

1
clingingtothevoid•

Yes, I figured that would change nothing for you, lol.

It depends on my mood... however I am the same way about smashed avocados

Not that this has anything to do with anything, but sometimes the world makes me a little sad, and sometimes (surprise!) Reddit doesn’t help.

And then I come see my bromos, and somebody wholesome like you makes a totally wholesome and relatable post about awful yogurt being awful, and before I know it, I’m smiling and my day is ok again.

Anyway thanks for this, I love it so much.

PS: Also vanilla yogurt is the devil, it’s like “oh let me eat a scented candle today” UGH and why does it come in tubs???

Extermikate•

I get it! My two year old LOVES yogurt, but she hates “CHONKS”. (This is how she pronounces it.) It is surprisingly hard to find yogurt without chunks!
