Taking out 60fps performance mode on the xbox one x is not credible. If the series S can do it, the one X can too.

I have a series x. I’ve been playing this game on performance mode and it looks fantastic. My only question is when I go into photo mode while in performance mode does the game adjust the picture for ray tracing? Meaning does it apply the best graphical settings for photos?
I’ve got absolutely no clue which Xbox is better than other, they need to hire a better name designers.
It really isn't that hard to understand
He’s the type of person to call every machine a Nintendo.

It's pretty straight forward to me. S is the budget product, X is the premium product. One is last-gen (and I think out of production?), Series is current gen.
Edit: If what's in question here is One X vs Series S, that's a false debate to me. Xbox One products are last-gen, have reached the end of production*, and aren't available for purchase. The only products Microsoft wants you to debate here is Series S vs Series X. If it's not obvious whether S or X is better, the $300 and $500 MSRP should make that very obvious. If you already own a One X and are debating between upgrading to the Series S or Series X, I don't really understand why someone would want to downgrade to the budget S line of products.
*supposedly the One S is still in production, but I can only find used and refurbished options when I do a quick search. I'm pretty sure Microsoft has already quietly discontinued, or at least dramatically reduced, One S production too.
No, straight forward is PS2, PS3, etc.
Xbox and Nintendo are terrible with naming
It’s all marketing. It worked well with phones who has a much more causal audience anyway. They couldn’t name the Xbox “Xbox 3” because then it would be behind the Ps in number and make casuals think it is a inferior product. I know this is Reddit and most don’t understand “casual” thinking but it is shown that’s how consumers think, it’s why commercials and ads work.
Yet here we are on the galaxy s20 and iPhone 13, so I’m not sure you’re point
I think what they were saying is that by looking at them in a vacuum, you wouldn't know which is better. If Mom and Pop go to the store to buy a console for little Timmy and see "Series S" and "Series X", they're not going to know which one is different/better. Whereas if they saw Xbox 1 and Xbox 2, it's fairly logical to conclude that the Xbox 2 would be better.
Now, all it takes is about 30 seconds of research to find out the difference between them (which is something that far too many people somehow don't know how to do), and once you know the difference it makes complete sense.
If Mom and Pop go to the store to buy a console for little Timmy and see "Series S" and "Series X", they're not going to know which one is different/better.
I disagree with this. Even if you know nothing about Xbox, a $200 difference in price should pretty much spell out which product is better/more "premium" when making the purchase.
You definitely don't know moms who look for deals. I literally had to inform my sister in law that a PS2 is not a good choice at $50 just last week. She didn't even know there were different kind of Playstations
You think that stopped Apple's Iphone naming nomenclature from going from the Iphone 8s to the Iphone X? Clearly adults can figure out basic branding nomenclature to figure out "oh expensive premium phone is the X not s"
Sure when you look at the prices, I'm talking purely about naming conventions
We’ve got different definitions of straight forward:)
Yes so straight forward
And the other hundred articles about the exact same issue with the poor naming schema on Xbox
lmao that shit got dispelled so long ago and was clearly a hit piece.
the sales for the Xbox One X spiked 747% on amazon because NOBODY was buying it before then (considering Microsoft also stopped creating new units LONG before that and there was almost no stock anywhere).
no shit you're gonna have a percentage increase that big if a handful of people buy the console compared to nobody buying it.
Link to the data dispelling it?
I mean why did a bunch of people start buying it al of a sudden for no reason
Then look it up? Its really not hard.
I actually think you’re totally right. Yea, you could learn which is which and which one is better than which other one, but the problem is there’s no intuitiveway to order the names of the Xbox family.
Imagine being outside of gaming and being told that this list is in the wrong order. Which is better: series, one, or 360? S or X? You have to learn the difference, it’s not incremental. Meanwhile Sony makes the number after PlayStation one bigger every time they make a new one.

🙃🙃🙃
Not the beat name but come on... not hard...
For a casual player or someone just getting into it, or a parent getting it for their kids. Yes it absolutely is a shit show out there with wrong purchases and mismatched accessories. I feel like they named these things to fuck with the masses.
Xbox One: 1080p/30fps
Xbox One X: 2160p/30fps
Xbox Series S: 1440p/30fps & 1080p/60fps
Xbox Series X: 2160p/30fps & 2160p/60fps
The game maintains the target framerates on each console extremely well. The XB1X version doesn't have a performance mode like FH4 did, but I'm impressed that it's actually native 4k. The vanilla XB1 has quite a few compromises beyond the resolution but still manages to look great, roughly in line with how FH4 looked on it.
That's kinda amazing FH5 is running competently on a machine released in 2013.
You say that but it looks like they've had to turn everything way down to have it run at 30 on Xbox One. Probably similar to PC low settings. I swear it looks worse than FH2,3, and 4 looked on a base Xbox One.
There is Digital Foundry analysis, where they compare FH5 on Xbox One with FH2, the difference is night and day. You just remember it wrong.

can i have a link?
Really? I have an original xb one and thought it looked better than FH4. Played one FH4 Thursday one last time the FH5 Friday to see the difference
Not really. First party titles have always been able to crank out more performance compared to 3rd party titles.
Edit: Apparently people disagree with the fact that first party titles are designed from the ground up with the specific hardware and software of the console in mind allowing them to optimize hardware and software in ways that isn't always feasible from a cost perspective with 3rd party game developers.
I would still classify that as "kinda amazing."
I don't because any developer is able to do this with enough time or money and given so little focus. The PS3 was kind of a shit show to develop for but first party games were able to run in ways a lot of 3rd party games struggled to do even latter in the generation.
No it's just stupid to think that good performance magically happens because they're a first party title. It's still a massively complex and difficult process to get a game like this to run well no matter who you are.
Were did I say magically happens? I rather specifically spelt out the fact they know the specific hardware and software capabilities and can plan for that from the start. And being able to focus on a single system allows more attention to be paid to them.
If you think this means "magically" then you are deliberately misrepresenting what I am saying.
John from Digital Foundry labelled Forza Horizon 5 the visually most impressive cross-gen title. If every developer can do this, I wonder why no Sony title was able to achieve that. After all they had more crossgen exclusives so far.
The irony here is that DF has repeatedly expressed their dislike of people using their opnions as final facts.
That and racing games have always been notoriously easy to make look good. Car shaders are very simple, terrain is flat and not complex and the environment is mostly rushing past in the background.

Does the series x quality mode have Ray tracing?
Nah I’m sure it’s only in photo mode
Ray-tracing is also used for audio in-game.
Oh sweet
Sorry I may be stupid but what is the difference in performance and quality then? If the resolution is same, what is causing the frame rate difference?
Draw distance, particle effects, shadow effects, etc.
It's not fully baked into the engine yet
None of the platforms have ray-tracing during driving gameplay, not even PC.
Slightly sad the 1x doesn’t have performance mode again.. getting 4 at 60 FPS was a delight.
What's the PC stats / recommended hardware?
Just hoping for an answer without having to watch 26 mins of video
This doesn't seem to be the video to give you that info, description mentions "3080 runs it with all settlings maxed out", well duh.
The recommended specs can be found on the store page, although as always, take them with a pile of salt
I'd wait for digital foundry PC analysis
Wish there was a 120fps mode on Series x but that's why theres PC
Wait so XB1X has better performance than the quality mode on Xbox series s
Ugh. 30fps on One X.
No thanks.
Appreciate the post. No 60fps option for a racing game means I won't play it.
He said it has a 60fps option.
Where?
My mistake, I confused the One X with the Series X.
I’ve been playing on my One X, and it certainly doesn’t feel like 30fps with how responsive the game is. I’m amazed the game looks and runs the way it does on last generation.
