Would you put a Refresher Orb on...

I have an interesting habit in how I choose heroes; instead of picking the hero and trying to find an item build that works for both of us, I will instead look at a particular item and ask 'how do I make this particular item work?'. This comes from an old habit of mine back when I played CCGs and found underused cards, where I would try to build a deck around them instead of finding decks that they could fit in.

So, in extension to making this thread about uncommon/underrated items and making them work, I ask 'Would you put a Refresher Orb on Omniknight?' What I'm essentially looking at is 14 seconds of physical near-invulnerability to go with a 350 HP/14s heal, but the big thing against it is the cost being dramatically outside the range of a support's purse plus the components being somewhat outside of his utility. It seems like a fun late-game item to put on him, though.

Any thoughts on any other underused items as well?

Refresher works after you already have a big INT item. Otherwise you won't have enough mana to cast the whole shebang. So I guess you could make Refresher on Omni, but he needs so many things before that (mana boots, guinso, HP item etc).

Exactly, and that is the problem with Refresher. There are pretty much no heroes that can support the massive mana-cost without another big INT item, and by the time you have that, the game is usually mostly over anyways. Plus, most of the heroes who really could take the most advantage of Refresher are supports, and they should be taking that much gold (generally).

It does work on Dark Seer and Warlock, after they get Aghanim's.

how come i can support refresher on skelly king with only a soul ring :x

Not sure if joking or just dumb.

But maybe you should consider that Skellie has 2 passives without any cost and no scaling mana costs on his other 2 spells.

I struggle with Warlock; Agha's seems great, but getting blink or BKB or sheepstick seems like it's more useful. In most situations I find the stun to be the most relevant part of Warlock's ult, followed by Upheaval, which BKB really helps. Are the twin golems that good?

The aghanims golems are spaced apart slightly so the total stun time is actually longer. In addition the immolation damage stacks

I guess that's pretty nice. I'll have to experiment with it, I guess.

Rhasta as well.

If my farm is good, I love getting a Refresher. So much fun. Hey I just laid down wards top, TP'ed into a teamfight and ward trapped and shackled your carry. Have fun.

You should just hex > ward trap > refresh > hex > ward trap.

This is a misconception.

It's a misconception that most heroes have other spells apart from ult and refresher? Eh, ok.

Nah, firstly Omniknight is a support hero and a melee one at that. And while it can be argued that Omniknight can farm it, you likely won't be able to, and won't want to.

Refresher Orb is a very underused item for a reason as it's mostly a late, late game item.

If you are intent on trying to get a hero to work with it though, go with Prophet.

  1. He can definitely farm for it.
  2. Yes, his ult does have a short cooldown, and one would think that Refresher would be a waste, but surprisingly, his ult has quite the synergy with itself. WoN often will damage a lot of melee creeps but not kill them. The second WoN likely will. Also, the damage it will deal to your enemies in not to be underestimated.
  3. While his ult has a relatively short cd as an ult, his summoning spell has a relatively long cd for a non-ult.

It's still not great, unless you have the line-up for it(Zeus/Spectre) but it's not as bad as with Omnikight.

Refresher on Prophet is not a good idea. Due to the same reason Aganim's Scepter is not a good idea. Why? Because you are pushing all lanes by yourself and your team will not have any creeps left to farm. This is especially annoying if there's a carry on your team, and 99% of the times there is at least 1 carry in a pub game.

You should concentrate on pushing one lane and forcing TPs back, instead of ruining the farm for the rest of your team.

Nature's Profit would like to talk to you about his Quota.

There is a dota 1 game a while back where prophet got aghs and a refresher with a spec on his team. Spec would ulti and give vision and prophet would send both ulti's flying. The ganking was insane with 2 global ports and the team fight power was very strong.

Holy damn that sounds pretty awesome.

Oh yes, it's not a great idea. But it's not horrible.

I've won games with Agha Refresher. I also remember a few pro games that used Agha-Ref Prophet.

Again, it's not the best idea, and there are situations where you simply shouldn't do it. But it's far from being horrible.

Also, you get Refresher later in the game, often at a time period your team wants to push lanes, when you want to pressure your enemies.

Also, I never said to use it for farming creep waves. Yes I said it had synergy because it killed creeps, but that's mostly me saying, it doesn't waste your ult's damage. Most of the time, a single WoN will put melee creeps at low health but not kill them, and a lot of those times, it will be creeps that finish them off, a serious waste of gold.

Obviously, you save Refresher on big engagements, where you will hit 5 heroes and deal massive damage. This not only means that your enemy, specifically supports, are weakened but that you can easily transition into pushing after winning the fight or that the enemy can't easily push against you if you loose the fight.

Perhaps you should try it on SK.

Refresher on Skeleton King may not be the most mechanically effective item, but god damn if it isn't one of the most fun.

Refresher+Aegis+Divine Rapier= Balln' out of control

In think a refresher would be cool on Bounty Hunter. Imagine being able to use two shurikens in a row, two jinadas in a row, and then escaping with your newly refreshed Shadow Walk.

What do you guys think about this?

Vigilant3•

Short cool downs anyway, too much money wasted, I know what you talking about but its far too expensive for the outcome. Which is still not too amazing.

2
Janse•

No. Just no.

For same money you could just as well get a dagon to add to your burst (this too is a stupid idea ofc).
