Is the heated steering wheel supposed to cycle on and off?

Never had a heated steering wheel on a car before, but now that I have one, I can’t imagine living without it! I have noticed that my wheel will get toasty and stay that way for about a minute or two, then cool off for a bit, and then repeat that cycle.

Is this a normal thing? I figured the wheel would maintain a constant temp like the heated seats.

It’s normal on other manufacturers too.

Thanks for the confirmation! Wonder why it doesn’t just maintain temperature…I always get a little sad when the toastiness fades.

probably not right, but it might be a safety feature. If something goes wrong and it gets too hot you don't want to not be able to touch the steering wheel so it power cycles.

I assume it's cost. Cheaper to do on/off than vary the temp. But I'm no expert.

Mine is just Hottt.

Really wish there were three selectable bacons like how the seats are.

Agreed, I found it to be pretty hot as well

No way, mine gets a little hot but then gets lukewarm. Wish it were twice as hot easily

I've always thought of it like an electric oven or range top. It only has two modes, on and off. It is unable to be set to a specific temp, so it just uses hot and cool cycles to maintain an approximate average temperature.

Mine does this as well, I'm assuming it's normal.

Mine cycles too

Mine cycles. Been wondering the same thing myself. Seems weird but my hands are never cold so it's working.

Mine does this but also seems to have hot spots. Anybody else? Like 10 and 3 may be warm, but 5 and 12 is cool.

Yep very annoying

Is that normal for heated steering wheels? Haven't had one prior

No idea! Same here

Mine cycles. Other cars I have/had did not.

How do you turn that on?

Either press the right scroll wheel and say “turn on heated steering wheel” or if you go into the climate control setting, you can select it there.

In the heated seats section of the climate, if your year has the feature

I’ve had mine for about two weeks. I’m still figuring out a lot of things😅

I didn't know I had it until I looked up how to turn on the back seat warmers. Pleasant surprise!

Although I've never noticed my wife assures me that heat cycles.
