This weekend is an event known as "Field Day" for amateur radio folks, and it's where local clubs around the nation go out to parks, set up stations and learning centers to educate folks about amateur radio, STEM-related stuff, and get people on the air!

The Mecklenburg Amateur Radio Society, aka W4BFB, will be hosting a weekend-long event at the Park on Wilgrove in Mint Hill, starting at noon on Saturday the 27th and lasting until 2pm the following Sunday. Any and all are welcome to stop by and see what us nerds are up to! We promise we won't bite!

If you want, we'll even show you how to get on the air and talk to folks all around the world using just a radio. No license is even needed! T

Just got a FTM-150Rasp for VHF/UHF repeater communications for the shack and I'm having an interesting problem that I just can't find the solution for, despite having read the manual from cover to cover.

I noticed on the nightly net our local repeater, that the radio will mute after hearing a transmission, and also when the repeater's automated call sign voice/morse comes in. At first, I thought it was a squelch issue, so I cranked the squelch down, and it still happens.

Basically, after each transmission, the green light will blink, and no audio is heard, but I can see the S meter active as there's a transmission going on, but the radio is muting it. Turning the volume does nothing. Esse

Just passed my Amateur Extra exam, and my 10 year old daughter just passed her technicians! Shes on her way to studying for general so she can do her own POTA activations with me! TBH I’m more excited about her passing than I am about me upgrading!

That said, who passed their tests today?

A local park in Charlotte, James A Polk Historic Site (US-6848), is holding a festival in two weeks with live music, crafts, local shops, etc. I'm a regular at this park for doing POTA activations and one of the rangers had taken an interest in what I do and in ham radio (he's applying for his Tech next week!).

He told me about the festival coming up, so I asked if I could set up a little booth about POTA and ham radio. Was able to get the blessing of our local radio club (W4BFB) to lend some equipment, ARRL pamphlets, flyers, and signage as well. I'll be bringing my radios and POTA gear, and another ham will be bringing some equipment as well. I'm hoping to recruit maybe another one or tw

So my daughter LOVES making videos, but is too young to have her own channel for youtube (nor would I really want her to put any of her videos up there).

I was wondering what may be out there when it comes to a private, self-hosted youtube-esque server. I looked into peertube, but I'm not a fan of it being federated and being searchable from other sites. (That and trying to get it to work from behind a separate reverse proxy has been maddening).

It doesn't have to be too terribly fancy. I'm just looking for something my daughter can upload videos to from her phone and pretend to have her own channel. Bonus points if Mom and Dad can comment on them and like the videos!

Since upgrading to Ventura, I've noticed that the sound on my Macbook Pro (M1 Pro) will occasionally drop out from the TS3 source. The source is selected, and I can dial the volume up and down, but no audio comes out of the headphones jack. I can switch to the MBP speakers and volumes comes out fine, but when I switch back...nothing. If I unplug the USB-C cable and plug back in, then it comes back.

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue, or is this just another Ventura bug to throw on to the pile?

Mods: I know it's not Friday, but the show is tomorrow and I didn't know if it would be Kosher to post or not, I'll understand if it has to be taken down.

As the title says, I have 4 tickets available if anyone is interested. I'll let them go at under ticket price ($15 per) for anyone who is interested in buying all or a couple.

It's at the Comedy Zone, and if you haven't seen his act, it's AMAZING.

DM me if you're interested and we can set something up!

EDIT: All are gone! Thanks and enjoy the show!

Never had a heated steering wheel on a car before, but now that I have one, I can’t imagine living without it! I have noticed that my wheel will get toasty and stay that way for about a minute or two, then cool off for a bit, and then repeat that cycle.

Is this a normal thing? I figured the wheel would maintain a constant temp like the heated seats.

I wanna say it was Amnesia 2, but I can't seem to find it, quickly scrubbing. It was a scene where he was shouting very loudly asking where the pig was, and then getting attacked by said pig and screaming non-stop. I've lost my bookmark to it, and I'd LOVE to watch it again!

Something along the lines of "WHERE YOU AT, PIG?"

Ok, just got my GMMK Pro in, and I'm really impressed by the build quality. First thing I did was update the firmware to 0035 and start configuring.

So here's the issue: All the preset animation work perfectly. No dead LEDs, everything is sweet. Once I get into the individual keys, I have an issue. I wanted to change the color of my side lights, so I chose side lights and changed them to cyan. When I saved, the left side lit up cyan, but the right side was dark. Then I notice that the Right ctrl, left arrow, and right arrow keys are cyan and breathing. Odd. Change the color, and same issue (but different color).

So then I decide to change ALL to cyan (not in the presets, but in the indivi

So a friend of mine met someone who said they were the "Voice of shuttle launch control" in Coral Gables, FL and got him to leave me a personalized voicemail message. Problem is, he introduced himself and his name cut out a bit (the rest of the message was legible). All I could hear was "Ron/Rob Br-----". From the stories he told my friend, he seemed pretty legit, and they were at a function where one would find a lot of NASA personalities. I know the voices of George Diller and Hugh Harris, but I just cannot for the life of me find anyone who was a launch control commentator by the name of Ron/Rob.

Maybe someone here can help me solve this mystery? The voice does sound really familiar, an
