No amount of guilt can solve the past. No amount of anxiety can change the future.
Last weekend, we spontaneously airbnb’d
a repurposed freight container,
containing a modern bathroom, queen’s bedroom,
kitchenette, and a fireplace.
It had been cargo-dropped
upon forty hectares of farmland, fifty five minutes
north of Melbourne’s central business district.
Among snakes, spiders, and so many butterflies—
colliding with us intermittently in the absence
of warm raindrops—
stood this shifted shipping container,
fully piped and wired,
with a fancy split-system air conditioner.
The last two years had carried the weight
of a decade, and we laid them to rest
with the lightness of a minute;
briefly escaping stable disequilibrium—
our low-budget methods of cooling
in the heat of a socio-political inferno.
We finally relaxed, eased
into the same space that once carried
insentient articles, in their own little respite
from the commotion, the loudness of it all…
In those hundred acres of serenity,
the untroubled, yet vibrant fauna; surrounding
a silent, steel prism—we were the freight—
blissfully inanimate.

I would love to get a peek into the inside of your brain haha. Magnificent stuff- speechless, really.
Agree, this is beautiful. A moment of relaxed wonder and gratitude brought to life. "we were the freight—
blissfully inanimate."
