Mina is a cute.
Plague, please draw her.
The fanartists are already in overdrive!
There's already porn of her.
Of course there is, absolutely disgusting.
Excuse me, I have to go find some so I can be angry at it and for no other reason.
You should bring some of the highest regarded ones back. So we may publicly decry them and the degeneracy of those who might regard them highly. Of course.
Be the change you want to see, my friend. Be like Sseth.
Link's Awakening on steroids.
You love to see it.
It feels like Link’s Awakening with a Castlevania atmosphere
Link's Goth Awakening
LA and the Oracle games are easily my favorite Zelda games, so I'm pretty down for this. Something about the GBC aesthetic really appeals to me, and I didn't even grow up with one.
Yeah Link's Awakening was one of my most played GBC games, huge nostalgia vibes with this trailer.
Here's hoping The Baz gets into this one.
THE BAT
CAN YOU FEEL THE STORM?
The Buzz, a fuzzy bumble bee with a superiority complex
$750 to guarantee it
We starting a GoFundMe again?
Aaaand all of those tiers are gone so nvm
Maybe someone got it for the Baz. Don’t give up hope
I can confidently say this is the most interesting looking Yacht Club game I've seen...shame I'm broke.
It's okay, save a quarter peny a day and you'll have more than enough by the time it comes out
Didn't they get into games publishing? Why the hell is there a Kickstarter?
God, that looks so good. Getting serious Zelda Oracle vibes, which is something I haven't seen in a while.
I'm so glad I got those on 3DS. They're so good.
I wonder if any One who is Hollowed or Knight of Hollow jokes will be in this?
Yeah I wish they used another word instead
This looks neat and I look forward to playing it, but last time I tried to pledge to a Kickstarter game, Kickstarter had issues with my bank and I ended up having to get a new debit card as a result. I can wait.
I find it kind of weird to see a Kickstarter without any stretch goals. Just what will the extra money beyond the goal be going towards?
EDIT: Oh, they added two stretch goals in an update with more promised on the way if the first two goals are reached. Seems reasonable so far.
I was wondering the same thing. They're guaranteed to get at least double, maybe even triple the goal.
thank god its something new
Using Kickstarter when they can clearly fund it themselves puts a bit of a bad taste in my mouth but other then that this looks cool. I hope people don't get weird about putting thier OCs in the game like in Shovel Knight. Also Mina looks cute.
Zelda and Castlevania is an interesting combination! I actually think Kickstarter is a decent way to offer the indie equivalent of Collector's Edition, though those prices are definitely not for me
A smooth and sophisticated handheld throwback with great art inspired by Castlevania, Link's Awakening, and Bloodborne, with a story directly inspired by gothic literature? This might be the first Kickstarter I back. And given that it's Yacht Club, who are the shining example of fulfilling their crowdfunding goals, I can have faith it'll turn out well.
Game looks great but Kickstarter is very odd choice, it would be like if team cherry opened a Kickstarter for silksong and adding the vague reasoning turns this from odd to concerning. It also feels like a misuse of the platform like it's to kick start a project not gain extra money or guarantee it's success, if you're that worried about the games success then contact a publisher. I don't know I really hope I'm wrong and there's nothing bad behind this but it all feels manipulative, gives me vibes of CDPR before cyberpunk 2077 where people had full trust with the devs and didn't question any of there decisions.
In Yacht Club's case, they are a publisher, so it's extra weird they went this route.
#Contact a publisher
nah. I'd prefer this game didn't get suddenly bogged down with the publisher demanding pvp multiplayer, costume dlcs, and for the art style to change.
there are plenty of sane publishers including yacht themselves.
devolver would love this.
Gaming community has a really warped perception of publishers especially ones that publish already successful studios. 90% of the time publishers won't interfere with the creative vision of a successful dev it's bad PR and it's not worth it, for example gearbox published risk of rain 2 and you would think they would have forced the devs to do certain stuff but because hopo studio already had two successful games gearbox basically didn't do anything other than recommended them to make a cinematic trailer and port the game to consoles. I have no doubt in my mind if yacht games went to a publisher that publisher would keep everything intact as it basically guarantees a success. The bad stories of a publisher fucking up a game tend to stick in our head and warp our perception of publishers.
they shared a ton of gameplay footage and technical aspects on Xplay today, where it was announced if anyone's interested.
I was not expecting another Kickstarter or a Zelda like. At least you can just do the $20 option as a preorder. The items actually look really neat in this one.
Now how do we get Zubaz into this one?
Ehh I liked shovelknight but this doesn't really look like my type of thing. Looks neato I guess
I trust Yacht Club Games completely but the use of a Kickstarter seems kind of odd. They likely can absolutely fund this game themselves but are just using this as a marketing gimmick which is kind of a put down.
Game looks rad though.
I hear you, but people will want to give them money. They delivered on all their Shovelknight kickstarter goals, this is the next step
Their reasoning as outlined on the Kickstarter page:
I'm remaining optimistic that they know how to handle the scope they're anticipating.
I don’t care that Yacht Club is using Kickstarter again, but that reasoning is about as generic as they come. You could visit 50 other Kickstarter pages and get the same exact message.
This reason is horse shit. The could definitely use a forum or Discord to build the exact type of community they're talking about here.
Pretty much plus a lot of the early tiers seem a bit pricey in general. And no stretch goals? I understand not wanting to be bogged down to a lot of extra promises like with Shovel Knight but what are they gonna do with all the extra money they're guaranteed to get.
maybe build some sort of...boat gathering?
I saw something that said there will be stretch goals one they hit the initial goal.
Not really. That would allows literally anyone to opt in with their 2 nickels. Through kickstarter they can filter opinions with the best curator: Money.
As we've seen before money doesn't filter out the garbage from contribution, if anything it can actively make the game worse, like the expansion furry in Kaiju Combat or cringey Reize in Shovel Knight.
How is money a great curator? Great, instead of some asshole with a shit idea, we have some RICH asshole with a shit idea.
That's doesn't really explain much, just a generic vague pitch. I trust Yacht Club in general but I hope they're just focusing on making a great game instead of trying to make a multi media crossing brand. You guys already know of another Kickstarter that tried to do that.
I'm really hoping it doesn't wind up like Mighty No. 9, though Shovel Knight did technically branch off enough that it could be considered a franchise created successfully, so I do have some hope that they know how to handle their resources better.
I feel like in this case the kickstarter is just handled as a mix of donations + pre-orders + communication tool.
I’ll still hope for the best but That reasoning is kinda dumb.
There’s tons of other ways to build a community than saying “hey why don’t you slide me a couple extra bucks”
Also $100 for a physical copy?
Seriously? Fucking Limited Run Games doesn't even charge that much
most kickstarters that offer physical games don't charge that much. Usually they charge around 60-75 dollars for a physical tier
Even factoring in kickstarter's fees, they're still going to make a shitload of capital up front. Plus, it's free marketing; I know there are enough users who trawl KS for new projects.
I'm very happy to wait for this to come out. Forget fancy exclusive rewards, the physical tier itself is $142 AUD!
I suspect they have less then you think. outside of the base shovelknight game even the more popular expansions didin't make much
between cyber shadow and all those spinoffs they really havin't had a big "hit" in a while dispite those games being ok to good.
another thing is that they might want additional funds to repeat the shovel knight phenomenon and it seems to be working.
Yacht is too new to tell but if their gimmick becomes making a really good game and then a bunch of unessicary spinoffs (to clarify im talking stuff beyond the main game and it's DLC's) i might start to question throwing money at them.
Yeah, considering that Shovel Knight Kickstarter backers got all of the expansions for free, I doubt that they actually made a ton of money off of them given how much of their playerbase was following from day 1.
