Lacey is and always has been an absolute gobshite.
How is it that a gombeen like him can delay a nationally planned infrastructure project though?
We have a planning system that encourages and rewards vexatious objections.
Can a councilor realistically hold this up? If the majority of the council give it the green light or say he's talking nonsense, wouldn't that effectively make this no issue?
He’s apparently bringing a motion in the SE Area committee (so a subcommittee on DCC) to have an “Independent Assessment”.
Unclear to me what the assessment would do, or how independent it would be. But his end goal is the MetroLink not ending at Charlemont (aka his backyard…ish). And if he succeeds in that goal, the whole thing will need to be replanned and that will present a tremendous delay.
Well the TII have already spent the money on a 2.4m deep slab with 3200m3 of concrete to act as the roof of the metro station, so I'm sure they'll fight it.
"When explained that there is only one station, just two entrances, they said an entrance North of the canal is 'effectively a second station'
But it isn't, It's two staircases, one station, both south of the canal.
But they still refuse to withdraw the motion."
I've got two ears - does this mean I've effectively got a second head?
He obviously hasn't been to a single city with a metro if he thinks that every entrance is it's own station.
Sorry lads. Thought the councillor was mentioned in the tweet. Here's the original from Cllr Lacey himself.

I thought it was an inspired comparison tbf.
No another one
That's hilarious. Seriously this Lacey fella seems like a parody account.
It's hard to understand how anyone in politics could be that sensitive or doesn't have the maturity or intelligence to know when to shut up. Like you'd think it would be a key skill in that kind of job.
I suppose another key skill is to be shameless and maybe that explains it.
Hi Malilk Could you private message me if you don't mind Was trying to message you but with no success
PILE ON!!!
This is incredibly depressing. I can't even tell you how deflated this makes me feel.
We're never getting a metro are we
Can we name this person?
Who is this person?
Can we just kill them at this stage
Am I missing something here. Apologies I've not been following the plans for the new inter-rail in Dublin whatsoever. However , I'm curious,.the LUAS is already covering all that stretch in Southside from St. Stephen Green ,Charlemont, Ranelagh,Milltown onwards. Is the new metro going similar or partial coverage of same route? Is there something special about Charlemont junction ? Genuinely curious ,again I've not been following this project at all. Cheers for any potential insights
Labour Party, didn't expect that one.
Can someone explain to me why spending €3bn+ on 12 miles of an urban railway is such a necessity? I mean like, I know for some reason almost every r/Ireland redditor thinks it's the bees knees but I fail to see what's so great about it.
I’m no expert. But when in foreign cities, I have never once chosen to travel by bus when a metro was an option.
But it’s much faster, more comfortable and carries more people more consistently than a bus.
You’re purely adding transportation capacity that isn’t competing with roads, so more people can travel the city at once and it takes pressure off traffic. You can travel in a much more straight line to the destination without stopping. The last two points can lead to LUAS being quite slow. It’s simply a more reliable way to commute. There’s a reason every major (and many of small-moderate size) city of a developed nation has such rail systems.
Insurance, fuel and tax for cars is high and only going up, so travel by car is far less attractive. Taxis are also incredibly expensive in Ireland.
Reddit trends towards people in their 20s these days, young professionals etc, so of course the demographic that benefits more from easy transport is in favour of it.
I wouldn’t say €3bn is an excessive amount to spend on such a major infrastructure project for your primate capital city. Though this is also the first time I’ve heard the price or that number. Once you have a metro you generally have it for good - London has had it operating continuously since 1863…
What do you think is better about our current options? Or is bad about underground rail?
It will serve the airport, which is currently poorly served by public transport. It's also an important step (and hopefully the first of many) in improving public transport as part of the greater effort to reduce reliance on private cars.
It will serve not just the airport, which is poorly served, but Finglas and North Dublin City, which are poorly served!
Public transport gets used when it's not shit. Rail is the best manifestation of public transport. Putting it underground means that we don't have to have yet another form of transport sharing the scarce surface resources.
This is why we formed societies, so that we can all benefit.
It’s fairly simple - Dublin’s population is projected to grow, the road surface in the city centre is already over capacity. So do keep the city moving new transport infrastructure will have to be elevated or buried.
Underground metro is considered the best solution.
He can't be serious. Does he not understand how in every city that there is a metro that a station can have even more than 2 entrances?
He only deals in facts
