Anyone NOT Reading the Prologue?
Starting a support group lol.
(Congrats those of you that are excitedly buzzing about the prologue, I’m happy for you!)

I am not. My normal policy is to not read any part of the book until it comes out. Made an exception for the SPs, but I don’t think I could take the suspense of reading the prologue of a Stormlight book than not being able to get the book for another 6 months.
Closer to 1.5-2 years until release date
Oops, mixed up with lost metal. But my point still stands
I didn't even stop to think before diving in. Maybe I should have. But I must say, I have never before been so excited to read a prologue for a book (because we know whose POV it is). So I couldn't resist for a second. Props to you guys for waiting it out, tho. That will make all the more exciting to open the book up for the first time!
The prologue is almost 10k words. I just treat them as short stories to get me hyped for the next book. Sanderson's quantity and quality are so high that I don't really worry about running out of stuff!

No spoilers: Hey, so here's what's in it.
I offer you a hug fellow traveler.
Sorry, didn’t mean to spoil anything?
No, because I just finally started RoW (I’d preordered but gestures at everything). I am a bit irked people are just straight up putting things in their post titles that could be spoiler-y, the same dang day it posted.
Good that people have new content to gush about. But I started reading some bold titles and got frustrated. Will have to take a break for a few days and let the excitement die down.
There really needs to be a pinned thread for it. The sub Is nothing but posts about it right now and avoiding spoilers is nearly impossible. I hate to leave this sub, but might have to.
Honestly, if I'm reading something and don't want to get spoilers, I try very hard to avoid anywhere I might get them. If it's in the title of a YouTube video, or shows up on my news feed, I get mad. But 9 times out of 10 if I get a spoiler, it's usually my fault.
For instance, I never came here until I finished WoR, which was the most recent release at the time. And I definitely didn't visit the Coppermind until I read every word of the Cosmere.
I wish people would take more responsibility for this. You're on a sub where most active users have read everything and come here to discuss it. The tip toeing required for unfinished readers can be burdensome.
I think the frustrating thing here is that people didn't even know about the prologue being released and there are spoiler titles. I'm all about doing what I can to avoid spoilers if I care about it. If I don't even know that the are spoilers that need avoiding, though, that's irritating. A day or two to let the news disseminate and people who want to vacate would have been considerate. I think people are doing a pretty good job with the secret projects. Not as much with this.
The success of the Secret Project Kickstarter has shown how truly vast Sanderson's fandom is. And Stormlight is his biggest property. I think you're asking for the impossible.
People are excited, which is a nice change in this age of bitter partisanship. Every movie, TV show, and book that comes out has to deal with scandal, trolls, small loud minorities of unhappy fans, review bombing, etc. This time in the Sanderson fandom has been joyful, which I am loving! I'm sorry that some people aren't caught up, and able to fully engage. But I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who are actively avoiding stuff Brandon releases, yet still engaging in places where they know spoilers are going to be posted. If you choose that path, that's fine. I get it. But I think you need to actively protect your unspoiledness, rather than expecting others to do it for you.
This gives me big victim blaming energy.
I don’t super care about spoilers, but when the rules are also that everything is to be marked spoiler and people aren’t even bothering to be careful with titles (not “SA 5 prologue” but straight up referencing what’s in it), it’s not a me problem. If I really cared I would leave (so it wouldn’t show up on my Home Screen, I’m not scrolling the sub), but even those who want to leave risk seeing those spoilers in the process of leaving to avoid them.
Yeah people don't seem to get the idea of putting a vague title rather than question about this character with the thing and spoiler tag it for something you wouldn't assume they're in. It's not too hard to have a generic title...
That’s my concern- like talk about it all you want, have fun, just don’t give away specifics of what’s in it with your question.
Omg me. The flood of posts has me thinking I need to leave the sub. Yes it’s spoiler tagged but there’s so many and sometimes it’s hard to tell from the title that the spoiler tagging is about the prologue (which I didn’t even know dropped and I’m so used to thinking I don’t need to care about spoilers since I’m caught up)
I already left the other Sanderson subs to avoid secret project talk, I don’t want to leave this one too…
I feel you. I’m just going to avoid reading anything from any Sanderson subs for a couple weeks to let things cool down. I don’t mind tiny spoilers on the secret projects, but man is getting spoiled on the next Stormlight book so long before it releases frustrating.
I expect the secret projects talk will die down over the next week, then ramp up again near the end of the year in anticipation of sp1. You should be able to come back safely in about a week.
Here, it's going to last longer. Everyone who loves theory crafting is drinking in the joy of new information to play with. We'll keep it spoiler guarded, of course, but the conversation is going to go on for a bit.
I’m not, already been spoiled though.
Oh no! I suspect it’s only a matter of time before it’s spoiled for me too
I always abstain from reading previews and advance chapters bc I am always so annoyed at myself when I read the actual book if I do (I hate rereading stuff unless it's on purpose) This one is so so hard to not read - but I'm going to stay strong.
Normally I wouldn't read it but I got immediately spoiled so I figured I may as well.
Yep that's what I'm thinking. I got something spoiled because of a post that was improperly flared so I got wrecked.
I never normally do. Before this Kickstarter I hadn't read a single pre-release chapter to any book.
However, in giving me four readings of the secret books (something I viewed differently, as it was more to know what they're about at all) he's converted me, and I decided I wanted to see it.
So I am sorry to say I was one of you, but have converted! I am sorry my kin.
You are Truthless
I’m reading it also because it’s fun to see how it will change.
Sounds fun. I’m a slow reader, so rereading it in the future has an opportunity cost.
My partner isn't because of the grammatical errors in the description making it harder on their dyslexia
Makes sense. A bit more polish will be good for the final release.
I want to but I'm too lazy to listen to the whole thing, I'd probably also be too lazy to read the written version if it exists but yeah
Meeeeee
I never read anything before full release. The bits at a time ruin the feeling of discovery for me. I now have to unsub from all the reddits of sanderson. See you after book 5 yall!
I read it! And I loved it! But i'm not gonna be some dumdum and spoil stuff in titles or without proper tags.
I wish everyone in this thread the best in waiting, but i'm delighted to have the prologue now :)
Didn’t even know it was out when I got on Reddit today, took about 5 minutes before I was spoiled. Might just crack and read it because of that, although the idea of reading early content doesn’t feel great. Glad to see the hype around SL5 though
Nope I'm gonna wait. I will feel imcomplete for a year if i read it now since I can't finish it lol
I was too excited when I saw the announcement, so I chose to read it. I fully respect people's choices to not read it however. I think the reasons I chose not to read the secret project prologues are similar to the reasons why others choose not to read Stormlight 5 prologue.
I wasn't going to, but then I also wasn't going to avoid every post with theories or spoilers and whatnot.
So I read it. Let's call it peer pressure lol
I was starting to read it then I thought that was stupid since I haven't read the fourth book yet. I got it right away but was not in a good headspace for it. So I need to go back and give it another shot.
Me but only because it isnt translated in my language so it's difficult for me to read so much pages in english
I assume the prologue for storm light archive 5 was released? I have no intentions of reading any early release material. I’ll read the book when it comes out
That’s my plan too, though the risk of spoilers is great.
Journey before destination.
Respect before spoilers.
I'm up for any crumbs of lore i can get my hands on but if you maniacs want to wait, sure. We can always tag spoilers.
I’m not worried about spoilers, I doubt anything that’s released early will be that big a deal.
thankfully this and other brandon subs are actually pretty great about spoilers. i still haven't read rhythm of war and have remained fully spoiler free this whole time.
it does require some self restraint to not click on posts marked with RoW spoilers, but i usually just click "hide" on those posts immediately so they don't hang around on my reddit home page!
The community is really good about spoilers. :)
Please share the link. Spoil me silly
Sanderson’s YouTube page, check out his video from yesterday.
Also someone posted a transcript on the subreddit somewhere.
Oh! Thanks a million.
Same. Idgaf about spoilers, but I don’t like to be left hanging so I’ll read the prologue when I can keep reading afterwards
Because it is a prologue it feels more like a part of the previous prologues and not the first chapter to the next story. Just my opinion
