The Rookie and Rookie Blue

Hello, dear reddit friends.

I've a question, because from what I've read, most of the fans of The Rookie watched Rookie Blue. I only saw three episodes and I bounced off of it. I dunno, it didn't "click" with me.
I am tired of tiresome waiting for another delayed episodes of The Rookie and I was thinking that maybe I should give a second try to the Rookie Blue.

So, a question for those who watched the Rookie Blue... Is it worth watching?

Watched Rookie Blue. I thought it seemed more like a romance soap opera than police procedure. Just finished 19-2. Canada puts out some good police shows. I'd also recommend Flashpoint.

Second Flashpoint! Absolutely outstanding tv show. I’ve seen it 4 times so far.

+1. Rookie Blue and The Rookie are very similar in terms of some of the “soapy” elements.

I really liked 19-2, very different tone than The Rookie, but has its own soapy-ness.

Both Flashpoint and Rookie Blue get Hightstown recommendations from me. They are great series.

I guess I'm the exception to the "most of": I've never seen a single episode of Rookie Blue.

Seen it? I have never even heard of it!

This is the first time even HEARING about Rookie Blue and judging by the viewership numbers, I'd say that goes for most of America.

I'm on your team. I don't usually watch "police procedurals". If it weren't for Nathan Fillion as the draw, I probably never would have watched this show.

I’d recommend Flashpoint ahead of Rookie Blue, but I’ve watched and enjoyed both.

Flashpoint is a bazillion times better than rookie blue and probably the best TV show I've seen in the UK that Canadian TV ever produced. The spike reaction to Lou and the landmine will rip my heart out the same way Opies "I got this" does in sons of anarchy.

Rookie blue was kinda meh. If I'm going to watch Missy peregym in something I'd prefer it to be FBI

Did you ever try Southland? That might be more the feel you could be after if you couldn't get through Rookie Blue.

Is it on a streaming service?

Not for free. It is watchable on the Google Play Store, Prime Video, Vudu, and YouTube.

I grew up watching rookie blue and flashpoint and love both shows, and because I grew up in Toronto I've been to a lot of the locations, which might not be a big deal to some people but it made the shows special to me. I recommend both but rookie blue is definitely more soapy than flashpoint.

Yeah totally. Same for me. I liked both shows because of where they were filmed but also bc they were good shows. The listener is also filmed in Toronto its not really police so much till later and it is a bit si fi but its a good show. Also fun fact Spike from flashpoint shows up on the listener as Spike.

I enjoyed, but 5 young attractive people forced to worked together is always going to end up with a certain amount of romance\soap elements.

If you're looking for a different type of police procedural, try Cracked which unfortunately get 2 full seasons but was still an interesting take on police work.

I was about to ask whether Rookie Blue is worth watching. From what I read on wiki, RB seems to have more romantic relationship among officers than in The Rookie.

Yes, they aren't shy on that. Which, oddly, enhances R.B.

Rookie Blue is entertaining and It’s also very “Soapy” and a bit low budget. It’s a comfort show IMO. Do you prefer soapy or more gritty police procedurals? If you like more gritty I agree with another poster who suggested Southland. It’s a really well done procedural.

I’m a big fan of the SWAT remake. Good writing, good acting.

Rookie Blue has some amazing episodes! And I would say on average they're better than The Rookie's (no offense to them).

Yes!!!! FLASHPOINT !! Its on Hulu and Rookie Blue i am not sure but also super good show!!! Both are great!!!

Well, if the first time you gave up after three episodes, why even try again?

TBH, Rookie Blue is better than The Rookie. It used a formula (others here called it "soap-opera") and stick to it. Having a love-story (a la Chenford) front and center means it has backbone (in a Castle way). Maybe they exaggerated here and there with regard to relationships, but it was fine by me.

Bottom line: yeah, I would recommend Rookie Blue for a new try. But that's just me.

I loved Rookie Blue. It does get better as the show goes along, and it has a satisfying ending. I think you should watch it.

Yesss 100% you should give it a second try. I’ve watched the series a couple of times and I’ll admit there are some slow parts but as the seasons go on they get more exciting. My favourite seasons were probably the last three.

Rookie blue doesn't have Enrico colantoni and flashpoint does and I really liked how it showed that it's not always black and white that good people can be driven to the point of doing very bad things

I’d watch Rookie Blue & Flashpoint!
