Sometimes
Sometimes
it seems
As though everything
is as bad as
it could ever get
Sometimes
it seems
That whenever
a direction
has been chosen
It’s towards
Consumption
Meaninglessness
Literalness
Emptiness
Vacuousness
Deathly life of not living
Merely
Consuming
Adhering
Maintaining
Giving up
Letting go
There’s nothing
Nothing
I believe in
Nothing
I value
Nothing
I want
Nothing
I can offer
Nothing
Nothing
Nothing

I relate. You need to double enter on Reddit, otherwise the lines aren’t separated. Great job. It is easy to get stuck in the system-the work, the actions, places, thoughts. But in our thoughts is the ultimate freedom, and by creating poetry you have already begun to show that you have a raw creative power within you. Feed your creativity, get some sleep, and don’t give up. Everyone has their own personal source of creativity that they can channel-don’t let yours be blocked. Keep it alive.
I find that, oddly enough, I free myself from literal-ness, ect. by embracing it for a time. That way I grapple with the reality but allow for my creativity to go wild within certain bounds. Often the thing we most want to escape is ourselves, so the only way out is to embrace it.
Support and love from Reddit! Thank you for sharing. It was beautiful, a gift. Keep writing.
Thanks, useful!
Yes literalness, I liked what you said about freeing oneself by embracing it for a time - definitely something in that.
And thanks for the advice Re double returns!
I guess I’m starting to use some of these sort of ‘in the moment’ poems to process and/or work through (and to some extent ‘free myself’) from intense reactions…
I’m not sure what it means to share these poems here (or whether it’s a gift!) but thanks for feedback!
