I walk alone
Along an ancient way
Now concreted
Life still intercedes
Between the cracks
And dogs
Even children, on a sunny day
I’ve heard there’s a plan
To return to the past
To pull out all that concrete
And let the river run free
But can you return
Can you go back
To a river that was stepped in before
Or will this simply be a folly
A tower to the stars
Another monument to hubris
And yet
And yet
And yet
Through all this todo the river still runs
Quietly one day
Roaring on another
It was controlled 60 years ago
But it still runs
And runs
And runs
And runs
It’s patience doesn’t change
It’s time laughs at us
It remains
It’s never been the same
Why would it be
