257 MPH in Freedom Units.
They might be Freedom Units if you could actually go that quickly legally on a public road anywhere on earth that uses MPH.
Isle of Man uses MPH and has no set national limit. You may drive as quickly as is deemed safe.
New drivers may only do a max of 50mph though, until they've had their license one year.
Nice! Learned something new!
They sometimes make the road one way so you can do an unlimited "tourist drive".
If you're lucky, you might also get to race the police 😅
Technically a public road, they just close it down for the event.
Murika!
Czech yourself before You Wreck yourself
Fair enough. I think that's the result they expected but based on the complaints it was their duty to "investigate" it.
I mean long as it wasn’t a stretch that has speed limits he ain’t gonna be charged with speeding atleast.
I think the charges were reckless driving based on speed, bot exactly sure how german law works
Yeah it had to do with the fact that in the video he posted you could see other drivers going much slower nearby. Their laws (correct me if I'm wrong please) seem to say that you're good to go as fast as you want in the unrestricted section but only if there is not other traffic around.
No Not when other traffic is around. I and everyone drives 150-220 no Problem. Its more about drive as fast as the Situation makes you able and the street aswell. If its foggy you shouldnt drive 100 on a narrow street even if street sign allows you to it.
that could happen.

How? The guy did it by driving at the least busy time of day, with spotters on every bridge and on the road as well. If you consider this irresponsible, then the law shouldn’t be here in the first place.
[deleted]
If that’s the case—if following the letter and spirit of the law would lead to it being changed—then the law was never going to last in the first place. So you might as well take advantage of it while you can.

Unfortunately, I think the tree huggers are much bigger threat here. See, in situations where freedom still exists, someone will occasionally scare someone else, generating kneejerk calls for immediate legislative action. And, frankly, you can do a lot of damage to society just by replacing "We the People" with "Eeeeek, the children!" But those incidents are inconsistent and short-lived, so if you can shoot down the occasional emotion-based calls for lower speed limits and more radar traps, then you can pretty well keep what you've got.
Environmentalists and other conscious enemies of car culture, however, never give up. You can defeat them, deny them, no-sell their every attack, and they just keep coming. How many times has the idea of abolishing delimited autobahns been floated? Not living in Germany or even Europe, I don't have an exact count, but from where I'm standing, it seems to get taken a little more seriously each time. Under conditions like that, it'll eventually win by chip damage.
Sometimes, if the safety crusaders are powerful and play their cards well, an event like this can catalyze legislative threats, but it's more likely that the delimited autobahn will die, long after this crazy Czech is forgotten, because of greens bombarding sympathetic legislators and regulators with inscrutable computer-generated estimates of how many fewer people would get lung diseases if everyone were forced to adopt (at their own expense) GPS-tracked electric cars with 100kmh speed governors.

Who constitutes a tree hugger?
Broadly, anyone who unquestioningly believes in the narrative of "catastrophic anthropogenic climate change". The tree hugger is a True Believer who treats climate change as an article of faith rather than a scientific debate; in fact, they see debate as unacceptable, because the objective is belief rather than truth. There are scientists who think climate change is a real, not necessarily good, thing, but also that the IPCC reports are hyperbolic fearmongering - to the tree hugger, these people are just as unwelcome as someone like me who thinks the whole thing is a scam, simply because they do not believe fervently enough. And these are the people who put, by far, the most effort into driving environmental policy.
Why do people who want to preserve the planet threaten you?
A lot of reasons, actually. I've already mentioned what I think of the overarching narrative, but that's only the beginning.
The first and most relevant reason is, when the environmentalists set about trying to solve their problems, they always go for the individuals first, and within that context, they always go for the cars first. If things are as bad as we're constantly told, then we don't need a reduced standard of living, we're looking at no standard of living, and just shoving Shiny Happy EVs down everyone's throat won't even be a drop in the bucket - but frankly, I have to seriously question whether any of the Narrative Defenders embedded in car culture know or care. Without exception, they continue to lead comfortable first-world, urban/suburban, "car enthusiast" lives while demanding that others be denied the same privilege, or be permitted it only in their exact way.
The second reason is the condition of my home state, Alaska, possibly the single greatest example in the world of forcibly wasted potential. We have plenty of oil, mineral wealth beyond imagination, timber as far as the eye can see, not to mention a raw land area greater than half of the US combined, and we can't do jack with any of it, can't build roads to connect the bush communities to the highway system, can't have a functional economy, because any time someone tries, the green lobby will pop up and start shrieking about duck habitat or who knows what. This state, which should be richer than the whole Arabian peninsula combined, has been permanently condemned to the status of a trackless backwater by these dilettantes, who don't even seem aware that this is a real place where real people need real money to live real lives.
The third reason is, they are ultimately unpleaseable. There is no good enough. Tougher regulations now are just a stepping stone to even tougher regulations later. It is not in the nature of the activist to be able to say "mission accomplished, we can rest now". Why bother to compromise with them at all, when you know they'll be back for another pound of flesh about 5 seconds after they get the first one?
The infrastructure sitting behind gas cars has taken a lot of freedom from people. Ask an Iraqi child.
If the Iraq war was only about oil, then the Iraq war was a fantastically stupid way to get it. There had to be another objective in play there.
Read this sentence out loud please.
I know very well what I said there, and I meant it.
The simple fact is, most of the approved narratives of today are incompatible with a strong, thriving car culture. So if you want a strong, thriving car culture, then you have to be prepared to go against the grain of what is considered acceptable opinion. The problem with a lot of self-described "car enthusiasts" today is that they can't or won't do this. They come into the car scene with other "causes" - environmentalism, concern for safety, a preference for big-city life, a love of bicycle riding, or maybe just "chronic early adopter syndrome" - already dominating their thought processes, and they start aggressively reshaping car culture in the image of that pre-existing baggage, so that it becomes something other than what it is.
And most people who have sought stricter limits on the autobahn/in general have not done so because of the environment. They've done so because a lot of morons are driving like lunatics on the autobahn/etc for YouTube/TikTok/Instagram views.
Like I said, I wouldn't know personally, but the last proposal I saw mentioned (there's a German guy on another forum I go to who complains frequently about these proposals) was a product of the Green Party... or was it the proposal before that? The two were so close together that I don't even remember which one it was anymore.
Either way, it's still easier to survive an occasional burst of REEEEEEEEE-ing than it is to survive a determined, coordinated, long-term assault by a group of implacable fanatics... although, come to think of it, the safetyists are just as capable on this front, and both are ultimately enemies of car culture.
Mathematical models are hardly inscrutable.
In theory, no, but the earth's climate is a sufficiently complex system that correctly replicating it with a computer model would honestly be the bigger surprise.
No one is suggesting anything like this. IDK why you made such a dishonest claim. It doesn't help your cause at all.
That specific line was a facetious exaggeration, but environmentalists do tend to be horrendously authoritarian, and also to come back demanding even worse after they get what they supposedly want.
Having grown up with really bad asthma, you won't find any sympathy from me with such an argument.
If air quality is the problem, then density reduction is the solution. Too many people too close together will always cause problems - before smog and asthma, big cities had to deal with horse droppings making people sick. I'm not trying to downplay what you went through, I'm just not entirely sure that the internal combustion engine is the root problem here.

When will environmentalists realize that the individual choices argument was literally a PR campaign paid for by BP to take heat off big corporations...

There’s always a selfish irresponsible asshole to ruin it for everyone
Didn't the guy have a bunch of spotters super far ahead looking out for traffic? Seems more responsible than half the shit you see on YT.
All this money to buy a Bugatti, but no money to test it in a closed course.
That aside, no speed limit is no speed limit.
Seems more responsible than half the shit you see on YT.
That's like saying "This glass of piss sure is tastier than a shit sandwich."
It's still bad optics though, which realistically is what matters, regardless of actual legality or safety.
What bad optics? He’s driving on a no speed limit road.. get outta here
To warn of cops? I’m not sure what the reaction times from a pilot would do transmitting communications to the car about someone moving into the lane when he’s doing 200+ would do. It’d be a jessi situation.
"Mr. Passer" has definitely hit the level cap
Why would he be charged
Going that fast can be seen as reckless driving. The driver says they did it under the “best conditions” but many would argue, including myself, the best still wasn’t good enough as there were other cars on the road and moments that appear to not have a far enough line of sight at least from the camera view. He was also splitting lanes because it was the safer way to drive but that brings be a up the argument if you need to split lanes to drive safely you shouldn’t be driving that way.

It's....an Autobahn?
I'm impressed he actually got it going that fast. More than 250 MPH is insanely fast.
Finally some good news
This is still going on? Like the 5th time I have seen this. IS it because he is rich is that the big deal? It's the autobahn. STFU

I see nothing wrong
This is something that scares me about driving in Germany as an American there on business or for vacation. I am super careful trying to obey all the rules and customs and then you have people going so fast that you don't have time to check your six to pass someone. I recall looking in my rearview as I approached a slower car in the right lane. No one in sight. Checked my blind spot getting ready to move over with my signal on and WHAM a car goes blowing past at least double my speed. Scared the hell out of me. I started to just follow whomever at whatever speed in the right lane after that.
I am super careful trying to obey all the rules and customs
So was this czech millionaire
More than 400 kph is above a normal and customary speed if they wrote an article about it.
The number of production cars that can even hit that speed has to be in the double digits
You look twice and you look for a while. A glance isn't enough.
German drivers are 1000% safer and more careful than American drivers.
No charges = a check written with a lot of zeros.
You're joking right?
I mean, he paid for the whole speedometer
Right? Imagine buying an iPhone and being told you can’t use iMessage, or building a gaming PC and told you cannot install Steam. Worse yet, buying a Subaru and not being allowed to vape.
I have a WRX and have never vaped a day in my life, sir
I think you're entitled to financial compensation
Was it used? You gotta ask the previous owner for the factory pen most of the time
nope, bought it new. i have also never worn a snapback
is that US thing with subarus and vaping ?
I think it's more an internet thing.
