Oh, I've seen this guy around the 'net.

Everyone says he looks like Milhouse.

Ah, what a take. The guy running for power is talking about issues that actually affect a large portion of Canadians. Truly, how dare he not follow the media narrative of blaming housing prices on avocado toast. The gall!

I’m no conservative- but Jesus, it is no wonder why the media is dying in this country.

I dont see the narrative you're suggesting at all, but PP's currently sending out fundraising emails saying he'll Defund The CBC

The CBC has become the billion-dollar propaganda arm of the Trudeau Liberal government.

It's a cheerleader for everything Trudeau does and attacks anyone who disagrees with him.

It's spending your money to make you feel bad about your principles and beliefs.

I will end this. I will defund the CBC. Saving $1 billion per year.

This article basically says he would have no power to change anything- therefore he should not be talking about the issue, and if he wanted to fix the issue he should just run for mayor.

I’m not sure you could write something more tone deaf or mis-informed. Thinking the prime minister has no power over the housing crisis is ridiculous.

Also, again with the cbc. It’s not some sacred thing - it should largely be defunded outside of its news coverage. No one watches it, people barely watch over the air tv at all anymore. It’s certainly not an excuse to vote for another party that will continue to inflate housing prices.

At an event last week in Toronto, the Tory leadership candidate was spitballing more ideas on how to reform zoning and make housing in large urban centres more affordable

The larger point here is that, notwithstanding Poilievre’s new-found enthusiasm for planning, Ottawa simply has no ability to influence zoning, either directly or indirectly, through the fiscal coercion he’s touting. Given that he’s an MP he presumably understands that the division of powers assigns exclusive responsibility for municipal government to the provinces.

you're saying this is factually incorrect? John Lorinc doesn't know what he's talking about re Zoning?

This is like that time some other media-illiterate tried to tell me that Steve Munro knew nothing about Toronto transit. Memories!

This is the new way - proudly flaunt ignorance and deny expertise.

I am saying it’s incorrect to believe the prime minister of the country holds no sway over cities. And god knows who John Lornic is - someone irrelevant clearly.

You really think he's going to implement these policies of heavily influencing markets after he's spent the last 18 years as a politician calling for a free market?

MrTacoTuesday35•

I am not pro Pollieve. I am against the nonsense in this article suggesting people running for prime minister should not be talking about the housing crisis or what is causing the crisis.

mrmiguBriar Hill-Belgravia•

Does the article suggest he should not be talking about it, or that he should not be proposing solutions that are not within the powers of the federal government?

8
MrTacoTuesday35•

And why should he not be talking about policies that are needed to solve what has become a national crisis?

It is no wonder the country is in the state it is in - people are actively encouraging the leader of the country to bury their head in the sand - and not deal with issues of national importance.

I don’t know about “scared” per say.

I think there is a lot of complete misinformation he is spreading on his stops that people feel needs to be addressed.

The by-line says it well imho

Poilievre is promoting a complete myth about federal or prime ministerial power. He’s making it up as he goes along.

It’s the same author as this piece picking apart just how incorrect the nonsense PP is peddling.

I’m not a fan of hand waving off legit criticisms of PP as “they are just scared” etc
