Double Acrostic Sonnet
I was in love when I wrote this. Some inside phrases: “axe-shark” was her self-described term for hitting the bullseye. “Ne me quitte pas” is a song by Nina Simone that brought us together. I believe it means “Don’t leave me.” She had a tattoo of “que sera sera” which means “whatever will be will be.” The first acrostic is each first letter of each first word. The second is each first letter of each second word. Enjoy!
Ne Me Quitte Pas
My idle hands and silly, wandering mind,
On meeting you were cast as in a spell.
Renewed, perhaps, a sense that I may find
New romance with a lovely mademoiselle.
In everything you sent I felt a thrill
No sentence here can manage to describe.
Goofy, so it seems, but if you will,
Consider every word to get the vibe.
How dumb! Humdrum! But not so once you see--
(Remember all is not said left to right).
In this I messaged you acrostically—
Some axe-sharks make me feel the need to write.
Single? Lonely? Sure! But si me quitte pas
You lose a que sera, and no pasa nada.
1—“Morning Chrissy”
2—“Impressed at all?”
