There is the slight possiblity that they will have a liquor store separate from the store ala BJ’s. The one in Springfield, MA is like that.

I have mixed feelings about this. I love Costco. BJs and Sam's club pale in comparison but it's just an awful location.

There are some super simple ways to mitigate it. Like not allowing ingress from Western, forking the throughway exit so it has access to Washington ave ext (this needs to happen regardless), not letting them put in gas pumps etc.

The plans are actually publicly available. And last I looked at them there was not gonna be any ability to go right from Western to Costco. Main ingress looked to be off that road in between Western and Crossgates.

Oh I never dreamed they would actually do anything to fix the western ave TW NE mess. Just pointing out ways it was possible to alleviate some of it

They don't let you go directly from Western to the Costco but the Costco entrance is off Rapp Rd just a short distance from Western. On a busy Saturday, I wouldn't be surprised if Costco backs up all the way into Western.

The project would include taking out several roads and much of the ghost neighborhood of vacant homes that Crossgates Mall bought over the last 20 years. The roads that would be taken out are Lawton Terrace, Rielton Court, and Tiernan Court, and nearly all the houses along those roads.

I think it’s time we took threats to ghost habitats a bit more seriously.

Were these houses unlivable? Housing prices in the area are bonkers right now, so unless these were all condemned it seems like that's a pretty big negative for this development.

Okay that’s not too terrible. The way the save the pine bush group was going about it, I thought they were going to put it in the middle of the pine bush reserve hahah. This right off western, it’s already developed.
And I saw they were building apartments? More housing is good imo. I wouldn’t live in that location but I’m sure people will

The Costco location is between the mall and Western Ave. Not exactly an ecological paradise.
The apartments that are tied to the project are along Rapp Road. It is still right next to the mall but is a wooded section that is more contiguous with the preserved areas of the Pine Bush.

I wonder how long it'll take to walk to Costco from there. This area has a real shot of becoming one of the most walkable areas in the region WITH amenities.

Agreed! When I was job hunting I was hoping it would be open by the time I was ready to make a change. Oh well, more opportunity for others!
I always said if I ever went back to retail it would be for Costco and Costco only.
