Empty Open Mic (v5)
I struggle with standing out from the crowd
except tonight since everybody left
no one to judge me harshly or at all
so here goes nothing special to lose
What do you get when you cross poor social
control with bottomless entertainment?
A fat narcissist starving for attention
At least the mic’s static gives me feedback
Why did the lonely man cross the road?
So at least car drivers notice him
Oooh that joke hits the spot where it hurts
Sad jokes and savage irony kill me
Knock knock
Knock knock is anybody home
Knock knock please somebody answer me
knock knock knock knock knock knock knock knock
If a tree falls in a forest and no one hears
do at least his neighboring trees notice
or has the tree’s violent death gone unmissed
I remember you tree my only friend
That’s all the jokes I have for tonight folks
At least no hecklers boo’d me this time
I’m here all night if you’d like to meet
You’ll find me crying myself to sleep
================================
Thanks for reading. Inspired by a real personal open mic experience. Revised from an earlier version.
How did it land with you? Was any part confusing? Did any part seem over the top? Does the formatting look good, it should be 6 stanzas of 4 lines?

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).
If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.
If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.
