Went from Fenix 6S to Fenix 7, initial impressions
I have been using a Fenix 6S for the last two years (not Pro). The smaller size made it comfortable to use during the day and not too bothersome at night. I do outdoors activities every day, use it as my head unit in my bike, plan routes for trail running, MTB and road cycling, etc. So I really wanted maps on board. Also since maps on a slightly bigger screen than the S should be so much better I went for the Fenix 7.
When it arrived home and I opened the box I thought I got the 7X instead, the first impression is that it's huge coming from the 6S. I even checked the model number on the back, but no error it was the 7. So I strapped it to my wrist and it felt ok to my relief. Bigger, yes, but still within my wrist.
In my first runs it felt pretty much the same, maybe a tad heavier. For swimming no difference except that the bigger screen makes easier to see with the goggles and the water. For cycling I mount it in the handlebar, the bigger screen is also an advantage. Oh the touch screen activates randomly when showering, so far this is the only issue.
Now the critical part for me which is sleeping. So far it feels like the 6S for me, maybe a bit heavier. I notice it sometimes but for the most part not an issue. I wear it slightly loose when sleeping (in fact only when running I wear it snug) which helps.
So I am keeping it, the bigger screen and better battery life compensate the extra bulk.

I'm surprised going from 41(58) to the regular 7 at 56(79) gram so easy to adjust in difference. I did the opposite going from 47mm to 42mm. The main contributor to go smaller was sleep wear, on rare occasions the watch removed unconscious because of bigger size. Battery life of 7-8 days still okay with a hour of GPS daily usage. The 7S at 1.2" still okay as bike computer since I never had an Edge.
I think the 6S and surely the 7S is a fine watch, never had a problem with the screen size. Battery life was quite good as well, 6-7 days with an average of 1h30 of GPS activity each day.
The problem with the 7S is that it's thicker than the 6S. When sleeping I think the thickness is what you notice more. Since the regular 7 is only about 0,2 mm thicker that the 7S, I thought that I could go to the 7 if I had to get a watch that was going to be thicker.
