Death Penalty

Poem

death penalty - 11:39 pm

she takes her place,

on the dreaded throne.

a wooden throne designed,

for the greatest of evil,

be it deserved or undeserved,

declared by will or gavel.

a lady of grace and wonder, she was,

now sat with her arms and legs snuggled,

to death's delivery boy.

aphrodite to men and women alike, she was,

now sat with battle scars on her wrists,

for she tried seducing death before the chair could.

her greatest present yet,

the capital punishment, finally putting a full stop to her hell on earth.

a hell she endured for 28 long years.

for she was going to go too soon for her friends and loved ones.

for her, it was finally an end to the pain her abuser brought upon her.

an abuser intertwined into the fabric of her existence.

she locked the doors,

closed the windows,

yet, the abuser was already inside with her.

an abuser, all too familiar to us.

five years ago, the abuser claimed another victim.

she was merely the vessel for carrying out its attack.

law identified her.

law sentenced her.

she did not have time to revisit the graves of her memories.

for ecstasy had taken control of her.

ecstasy of knowing that she was moments away,

from experiencing the happiest moment of her life.
