Native lore

As u/Sivy17's post previously suggested, apparently developers overlooked Native lore card when they designed European "natives". So, in order to quickly fix it, developers put no thought at redesign, they simply changed the effect of the card to "reduce cost of native techs by 20%" and called it a day. What used to be a 50% cost reduction for most of the native techs, which cost equal amount of wood/food and coin, is now only 20% reduction, rendering this card useless now.

Your thoughts?

I think they hotfixed it in order to make euro native strats not insane and going to rework it in time.

I really hope they come up with something more clever in the very next patch.

I'd argue but there is one tech that moves into the imperial age immediately and gives you a factory lol and having to not pay it's insane gold cost would be nice.

lmao

They could have just made that only that one tech would either be not affected or half price.

And calling it useless would be exaggerating. Maybe only mildly useful.

The actual problem with natives is it adds an insane level of complexity to already refined build orders. No one wants to touch them even though they're already very powerful.

They’re pretty integral to many of my BOs. Divising a way to use them consciously is fun and a creative challenge! Highly recommend exploring that if you find yourself stuck in a repetitive cycle with your strats

The fun thing about natives is that it forces you to think outside your build order and adapt their unique techs and units into your strategy. It’s a great reward for players who engage enough to learn the intricacies of each native, not a problem.

That's not a problem in a rts, you want to avoid your players just doing the same build order as much as possible to keep it interesting and fun.

A 50% cost reduction for these euro natives with their multiple very expensive techs (as opposed to the usual cheaper techs) would still be pretty op for an age 2 card.

Is the Asian version under scopes as well? Because on stable version, their Native Learning is exactly 50% off all resources at Age 2 still.

IIRC the Asian card buffs for natives are also stronger than the European equivalent.

Ah right, yeah that card's OP on certain euro maps then probably (especially Vasa, Wettin, and Habsburg)! Forgot it was a bit different tbh. Btw Southern Realms is epic.

I have such mixed feelings about the European Royal Houses. On one hand they are very cool, but their techs and abilities are so overly complicated while the units are much stronger than equivalent American native civs.

Honestly, I'd take new strong Natives over weak ones any day. Also all Royal Houses have really cool units and techs.

Sivy17•

I just find them a bit convoluted with how many bonuses get stacked on. Complex =/= genius.

Agreed, it should have been -40% discount. Let's hope they fix it or maybe even improve some of the previouss Minor Civs' techs.

Agree, now is weak, need a buff to 40/50%.

Or add a embassy, better, add a new native alliance like Incas.

i never used native lore. 50% less gold for the techs just doesn't seem worth it

1
ApofisOP:French: French•

It used to be 100% less gold. No gold cost for techs.

Native lore removed the gold cost of native techs. Explain to me how that's an ok thing to have right now with these new civs? You can't, because removing the gold cost from royal houses would be beyond broken. Take the L

Well, I said "apparently developers overlooked Native lore card when they designed European "natives"". They should put more thought into it, or redesign the card differently. One option would be "it removes the gold cost up to a certain amount". But it just seems they took the most trivial path they could and it is broken as it is now.

It works perfectly fine as is, in fact it's getting buffed now that you can research native tech out of the native embassy after the pup update goes live. This is a good thing for France players because France is really good with natives. Native lore is when you wanna use the straight to imperial upgrade, that's what's up.

No it is not fine as it is. Take Commanche, for example. Previously, if you researched all three technologies in their settlement, you profitet 450 coin from native lore. Now you "profit" only 50 food, 90 coin and 40 wood, that is 180 resources in total. Only a fool would now send a native lore instead of age 1 resource shipment. As I said, they should redesign it differently.
