Like Fruit

Poem

There was a time, once,

when I had dreams

and I could hold them

like fruit

in the palm of my hand.

And as I grew

so, too, did my dreams;

no longer could I hold them all -

these fruits of my battered, wanting mind -

the ones it hurt the most to let go

were the ones I'd held the longest.

Amazing! You seemed to perfectly illustrate how we have to let go of dreams as we get older. I felt sort of sad reading it. But in a way it opened my eyes to how my dreams have faded as I’ve gotten older.

Thank you for your feedback.

To hear someone else say that I got something right for them to see, fills me with a peace that at the very least, my writing did what it was supposed to for the person who saw it.

I love this, but I want more! I can see that there’s something here, something you may have had in mind while writing it. What type of fruit were you imagining? I like that it is simple/clean and causes the reader to think. However it leaves me with questions :) I liked reading it

Thank you truly for the feedback.

In terms of what type of fruit, I had various kinds come to mind, but I wanted the reader to be able to empathize as well, so I left it open-ended; that way, the reader's mind could picture their own variety of fruit.

Because we're all different people, with different dreams, but we've all had to let many of them go as we got older - that is what I wanted to convey.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above.
