So they require an outside the waste band holster for a ccw class? Or do they require you to take this and then take one from inside the waste?

Not gonna lie I haven't read the actual requirements yet and I was going to wait a month or 3 for them to change 9 times.

46
TaskMaster1942OP•

This class in peticular reccomends an OWB (less chance of dumbasses shooting themselves)

State requirements are simple and the test is pretty much just to shoe that you know what a gun is

15
Adavenpo8•

If you can't draw from the holster you're going to use why bother?

When I was running around as a mobile welder I had a wv ccw permit it was shot 5 rounds at 10 and 5 at 25 I think all had to be center mass hits so 10 rounds in the entire body area. And like 20 min of classroom "training". I don't know how much more simple you can get from that but I'm sure it's more complicated in nj.

14
grahampositive•

sounds worth $795 to me

/s

9
BbRiicSUnion•

I think you missed a decimal somewhere. $795 is insane compared to all the other ranges I’ve looked at.

2†
grahampositive•

OP just posted P&K price is &739 thats $791 with tax

2
Mikei233•

State still doesnt know what the requirements are going to be, so i dont know how anyone is offering a class claiming it will be sufficient.

2
TaskMaster1942OP•

Yep lol

1
Corse46•

I’ve been on a few of the NJ ranges websites offering classes and it looks like a few of them have recommended OWB holsters.

3
CarlWinslo9•

OWB is my preferred way of concealed carry. Much more comfortable

1
ayotc•

Should be free if required by state to get it

44
Verum14•

but that would allow the poors to get guns

grahampositive•

amen

aerostatic9000•

And just when you thought some FFLs couldn't gouge more, christ.

Little Bob's is 100 for the course, GFH has it for 150 non members, there are a couple other locations prepping courses (RTSP, Recoil). Once more people get trained and licensed hopefully the best/cheapest options will come out so we filter out the shit/gouging.

33
NJExplosivesTier 1 contributor•

Exactly. All you have to supply the state is a certification showing score data and pistol info on instructors letter head. That’s it. There’s no NRA certificate or class required.

If you own and shoot regularly, shouldn’t be a problem. Why take advantage of people?

11
laiod•

Does Bob’s give you classroom instruction too?

1
aerostatic9000•

Not from what I saw on their FB. Literally just the course of fire.

1
TinyDick77•

Shooters called me today to inform me “nj doesn’t do CCW, you don’t know what you’re talking about” and that “Our one time, one hour course is enough to fullfill the NJ requirements”

24
40calripken•

Can’t wait for Savage to post his exclusive $999 class 😂

28
TaskMaster1942OP•

Legit top of the line high level 5 day courses are like <$2000 😂

12
TaskMaster1942OP•

Technically a hour course could work, but it also might not. They left a very loose description of what they want and will probably be better defined in the future. Rn courses used for retired/Security ccw and police quals are probably the best bet.

12
Longjumping_Jello846Burlington•

I’m thinking they aren’t up to speed on any of this.

8

No shortage of cash grabs occurring right now with all of these Nj shops. They aren’t even 100% sure the course will be accepted by NJSP as fulfilling the requirements yet here we are. Be patient guys and pick a course you are comfortable with that won’t rake you over the coals.

18
TaskMaster1942OP•

Fr I'm doing one for $70 that's used for retired/Security ccw

12

I found one for $75 used for retired Leo’s as well. I’m just holding off on booking it because I’m not sure if the use of force test will be required.

3
Phx_68•

Got a link?

TaskMaster1942OP•

Not giving out my secret just yet 😉

avsterbone2•

The training requirement will be ruled unconstitutional because shit like this is unacceptable.

16
TaskMaster1942OP•

It won't, this is just a Jersey FFL at work. Pretty much any pistol basic class should work in theory, but its untested as of now.

That said I highly suggest a reputable ccw class that goes over your states use of force

11
Cabbagewatcher•

Read the Breun decision. It explicitly states that training requirements for ccw are not touched by the decision, unless excessive. And if you know anything about NJ federal courts, the district and 3rd circuit won't be finding almost any training requirement unconstitutional. Addressed in one of the footnotes, 9 I think

8
Itsivanthebearable•

I doubt the training requirement will. This is what’s being charged from a private establishment. If it was something like the permit filing fee for the government costed this much $, then yes it likely would

4
grahampositive•

well on that note the $50 fee they charge is bullshit. And the fingerprinting should be done by local police for free instead of that shady ass identgo company I fucking hate them. Been fingerprinted by them multiple times over the years for various reasons and they always treat you like shit and have the worst locations

5
cimeelsekalbPENNSVILLE TWP.•

I just submitted my Florida CWP app and had to get my prints taken at my local PD, which they didn’t charge BUT I had to submit a check for $42 along with my prints when I sent them. Plus had to pay $55 + the $1.38 convenience fee when I submitted my app online. Talk about a racket…

3
avsterbone2•

Was the $1.38 connivence fee charged to you because you submitted online? I’m pretty sure had you just mailed the application in you could’ve dodged that fee and just sent a $97 check.

1
GHuss1231•

Range 129 is making an announcement on their facebook tomorrow about what they will offer. Hopefully it’s better than this nonsense. I saw another one that was $300 and required 500 rounds of 9mm. That’s ludicrous.

16
NurseDingus•

I really like range 129. So much so I drive 40 minutes to get there when Bobs is 5 minutes from me. I’m hoping they have a decently priced class

9
psychwarfare9•

Same. Planning on getting a membership there. Great range and really nice staff.

5
mountaindew71•

I'm hoping they have enough classes. I keep trying to get my son into a youth first steps class. Their next opening is the end of December.

3
NurseDingus•

I’m at a crossroads with carrying. I have a 2 year old son who is perfect height for teaching up to my waist level when he wants to be picked up so that worries me. I dont want to avoid picking him up because I’m carrying a gun. My wife isn’t to keen on the idea but if I got a carry license she wouldn’t protest to much. And frankly I dont go many places where I would carry. Like am I going to bring a vp9 on a golf course? I’ll prolly do it eventually when the details get hammered out but I’m in no rush

2
jersey_devilffl•

I like your comment. Thumbs up to 129! U may meet the devil there one day.

Jdf.

2
rappydappyk•

Lol I seen that too from 2 different ranges & I was like wtf? These people are smoking crack

3
BbRiicSUnion•

50 to shoot and the rest for the range to keep as your deposit 😅

3
laiod•

500 rounds jfc

1
F150Fan45•

Range 129 is great just don’t mention anything about “others.” They’re uneducated in that aspect

-1
Cr0wbaar•

Oh really? I've shor my other there a bunch but it's not like I was broadcasting it all maybe they just didn't notice.

3
F150Fan45•

When it comes to building one, they told me multiple times the receiver had to be stamped and I can’t build one because it was illegal so they tried to sell me on the Troy Other

1
Tall-Court•

They told me the opposite when I transferred 2 stripped lowers through them, the one guy said he was building his own and to let him know how mine turned out

3
thenameisnando•

They removed the price from their post lol

10
LetsGatitOn•

Dude $700+ per? That is fucking outrageous

9
TaskMaster1942OP•

$45

1
Gopnik-Slayer•

Minimum caliber 9mm. Ya, I'm sure that will fly with most people. Fudds.

9
zacharymmiller•

Best bet is to go to PA what a scam

8
TaskMaster1942OP•

Other places are putting out ads for decently priced classes it seems

5
zacharymmiller•

That’s good. A lot of NJ FFLs seem like money grabbing Fud’s!

6
Go_Flight_Go•

$730. Fuck outta here.

8
Wolfir•

I'm not even going to try to get a CCW this year, I'd rather just wait and see what the hell happens between now and next summer

I've survived this long in NJ, I think I can survive another year with just pepper spray

7
TaskMaster1942OP•

Don't need to wait THAT long

7
Wolfir•

maybe not that long . . .

but everyone is rushing to be the first person through the door

and no one has even ironed out the kinks

6
ChokeOnnThis•

I gotta wait to get another permit for a compact so I’ll give it that amount of time. Hopefully this is all figured out by then.

3
iamsobasic•

I’m also waiting for the online forms. I don’t trust NJSP not to lose physical papers.

5
laiod•

I’m surprised they’re actually trying to make the process easier.

0
xx-BrokenRice-xx•

Does this class come with a free gun?

7
ThomasWJames•

That’s excessive. As responsible gun owners we should do our due diligence and spread the word to newbies and let shops and ranges know we won’t accept those ridiculous prices. I’m still waiting on either ShoreShot or Recoil to come out with their Nj compliance course. My go to range is ShoreShot even though Recoil is like 15 minutes from me I found ShoreShot to be more knowledgeable and “gun friendly” at the range. If you bring something to Recoil they know little about or haven’t seen they kind of freak out and hover over you the entire time…

6
TaskMaster1942OP•

Plenty of people are gonna go there regardless, they have a few people on Facebook asking for a sign up. This post calling them out has 30+ down votes which is more than half of the people that voted up or down.

2
mountaindew71•

Why is a .22 not acceptable for CC?

5
TaskMaster1942OP•

No idea

4
jerkyfarts556•

The course is designed for police qualification. Police do not carry .22.

0
lostcyborg•

Hopefully this helps. https://nj.gov/njsp/firearms/shooting-ranges.shtml I think I will be doing the one in north Bergen at scheutzen park. Honestly growing up there I had no clue it existed and honestly still find it hard to believe it actually still exists.

4
rdm78•

Curious on what you think a reasonable price is? A range near me launched NJ CCW classes for $225 - 5hrs.

4
TaskMaster1942OP•

Not terrible, whats expected in NJ so I'd go for it

3
emusoda•

Reloaderz is like $134 for 2 pistols

3
TaskMaster1942OP•

You only need the penit on the one handgun. Idk why they wrote the stipulation that you need to do it with what handgun you'll carry because the permit says it applies to any handgun you own.

3
emusoda•

Here’s the number 5 on the list of requirements says. “Written proof of ownership and qualification with the handgun(s) you intend on carrying. Proof of ownership can be a purchase receipt or purchase permit or a notarized letter of ownership listing make, model, and serial number of handgun(s). Written qualification must be within six (6) months of application and must include Instructors Name and Certification Number, make, model, caliber and serial number of handgun(s) you intend to carry.”

5
TaskMaster1942OP•

Yes that's what I said. On the app it says what but looking at the actual law for the permit it says it's fine for any handgun you own

6

You know we'd need to go to court for them to respect that.

2
e92m3allday•

Training coordinator and chief instructor of reloaderz here. Can you please point to where it says that? Because the assignment judge of the superior court of Passaic county says otherwise.

1
TaskMaster1942OP•

Maybe I'm smoking, lemme check

EDIT: here

" a. Scope and duration of authority. Any person who holds a valid permit to carry a handgun issued pursuant to this section shall be authorized to carry a handgun in all parts of this State, except as prohibited by section 2C:39-5e. One permit shall be sufficient for all handguns owned by the holder thereof, but the permit shall apply only to a handgun carried by the actual and legal holder of the permit."

https://law.justia.com/codes/new-jersey/2013/title-2c/section-2c-58-4/

6
e92m3allday•

Thank you! I will send that to the judge and then just confirm before posting that! Appreciate you.

3
vorfixOcean•

Maybe NJSP is assuming all judges limit permits? Even then I assume type would be revolver vs semiautomatic not just each individual handgun to be carried. Then again the NJSP/AG has expanded "thoroughly familiar with the safe handling and use of handguns" in the law into this mess of training requirements as regulations in the administrative code. So they just want to make things more difficult in general and make things up as they go.

2C:58-4(d)

... The court may at its discretion issue a limited-type permit which would restrict the applicant as to the types of handguns he may carry and where and for what purposes such handguns may be carried. ...
