Mass Pike Suicide08/08/22? Looking for Reporting

Last Monday I believe I witnessed a suicide on the mass pike. A white male climbed on top of the concrete overpass barrier and jumped off. Does anyone know where this type of thing might be reported? I’m pretty sure he didn’t make it but I can’t find anything in the news or social media and it’s been driving me crazy. I know what I saw but I’m looking for confirmation so maybe I can stop thinking about it every day.

I think it was between Worcester and Boston around exit 93/94 on the eastbound side.

If you don’t already, I would consider talking to a therapist. Thats a heavy thing to have on repeat in your head. Hopefully you get the info you’re looking for.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I’m fortunate to have a therapist, though it still takes some time to process something like this.

I was abused by a therapist, who abused my previous therapist, and then I was abused by the next therapist, who abused the previous one. True story. Same happened to my friend. First therapist told me to get a handjob at an asian massag parlor in Downtown Boston for an extra tip, second one told me to abuse my mom and grandmom and that it is normal for middle schoolers to grope each other during a dance, he also fired my previous therapist without my consent by calling her without my consent on his initiative, the last therapist threatened to report my parents to the attorney general for tax fraud over how they handled the money they use to support me and accused my dad of HIPPA violations at his office, my parents hate and don't trust me now.

I think they’re pretty sensitive about reporting suicides. Someone killed themselves that was pretty high profile and it was never reported anywhere besides like Twitter and scummy sites, and it was pure speculation. Nothing official.

Yeah I agree I don’t think there’s any official reporting on it or most suicides, in general. The 911 operator confirmed there were other calls about it, but I guess I’ll just have to live with never knowing for sure.

I’m only looking so I can have some peace from thinking about it in loops.

The town might have a Nextdoor where they talk about such things. I saw something like this before so I can relate to thinking about it in loops but it fades.

That’s a great idea, thank you! I don’t use Nextdoor but I’m willing to try using it for this. I know it’ll fade eventually, I’m having a harder time forgetting it thanks to the lack of certainty. It’s easier to doubt myself than accept that this happened.

Some smaller towns will also have a police log that shows the calls that local police have responded to that week. I doubt they would outright say it’s a suicide but you could get some information out of it. On the pike though, it would probably be state police responding so idk if those are easily publicly available

My fiancés father killed himself off a pretty well known “suicide bridge” where we live, it was not in the papers and kept pretty quiet

I feel for anybody in that situation but what a horrible way to commit suicide. You’re basically banking on some innocent person to hit you with their car. What a traumatizing thing for that person to go through.

Yeah I agree and it didn’t seem planned - the person was only everyday normal clothes/shoes and pulled over right by the overpass itself.

I don’t know what was underneath the overpass but I was hoping it was water. I don’t think it would matter either way though? I really hope it wasn’t another street/highway.

What happened after you called 911? Did they say they were sending EMS services?

SomePolackOP•

Pretty much - “we have other calls about this, services are on the way, goodbye.”

I'm very sorry you witnessed this.

I appreciate that! Such is life in cities/on major transport routes :/

If it makes you feel better, I think the highway isn't particularly high above the roads along those areas. For example.

You may be dealing with someone playing a prank or someone with mental illness that got a broken leg/torn ligament.

Jumpers are pretty heavily reported so if you dont see anything - assume no death and probably no ambulance.

I wish! Best case scenario they ended up in the hospital and survived. I think you’d get a lot worsts than just a broken leg/torn ligament jumping off something like that in the way this guy did.

The guy either died from suicide, got injured or disabled from suicide, or will die at some other point for some natural or unnatural reason.

If it helps at all - idk - friends and I used to go rappelling off bridges all the time when we were younger. Including inverter rappelling that would involve walking/jumping off bridges face first.

SomePolackOP•

I have some experience rappelling and this guy didn’t have any gear or take time to set anything up before jumping. He walked straight from his car to standing on the barrier in a “T” pose then he was gone.

Okay, sounds like you witnessed a suicide.

Dying is normal, everyone you know will die eventually or you will die first.

Shit, no way? Doesn’t mean I want to see everyone I know jump off a bridge before their natural/fated death.

Maybe he was just crossing the road?
