That last rhyming couplet of earth and birth really hit me, it was like a perfect visualization of a plant/person growing up in a place that totally decimates all others who attempt to exist there. Idk if you meant it to be this way, but I really see this as a metaphor for the human spirit and our desire to push on through hardship.

Wow, I truly love this poem. The simplicity of the beginning focusing on just the rose ending with the last two lines truly pull the poem together. Something that’s hard to find is when the poet leaves the reader to their own emotions and understanding and not giving away every last detail and grasping at a metaphor. Well done.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our [feedback guide](https://new.reddit.com/r/ocpoetry/wiki/feedbackcritiques), or look

The last line is haunting, definitely a strong point in your piece! I enjoyed the brevity but I would love an interpretation of your vision where you're more descriptive (it might make it more visceral) - perhaps unusual adverbs or unique metaphors? Nothing too forced, I just enjoy your slice-of-life description of something, examined closer!

I like this, short and sweet. The juxtaposition of beauty and destruction is well executed, and it moves along smoothly

I really like the way you used a sense of brevity here. So much more impactful. Thanks.

I'm new to poetry. I really appreciate this, I am not quite sure why.
I guess that is part of the beauty of poetry.
Thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed reading this poem, visual imagery and message are clear and meaningful. One suggestion would be to simplify it even more by removing unnecessary words...i.e. Trampled rose/unfurls/outstreched petal/forms a crown/Roots descend/in hardened earth/weaker things/would die at birth....

Hmm, nice methaphore on people not knowing how much hard work and willpower the ones on the top had to put in. Very short and dense, solid work.

Thank you for sharing this. It’s very uplifting and filled with a strong sense of life

Great poem. Symbolism of our growth and eloquent in speech. I would love it if the one who plants and maintains the Trampled Rose is also discussed symbolizing one or many who helped us to grow.

I would love to see you add on to it, "The Trampled Rose and The Gardener"

I like the spirit of this one. I don't read it in a calm voice. It reads passionately, maybe even furiously, declaring its own existence. I don't know if this is what you intended; however, if it were to be like that, then I wouldnonly change the rhyme and measure of it. I think (a,b,a,b) or (a,a,b,a) or something would fit the tone much better, highlighting the last one or two lines, which is where this poem unfolds.

I like the imagery of this poem, it’s like looking at a rose an painting your own perspective but in words. The final bit evoked a lot of thought in me and I think I’ll be pondering it for a while. Nice a
work!

I love the imagery here used to depict how person who is completely crushed will still find some way or the other to survive. It really shows the perseverance of a person in harsh time, and I love how a rose is used in contrast to the rough idea of the poem. It's a great poem and I love the rhyming, keep composing :>

A trampled rose
Unfurls now.
Outstretched,
Each petal
Forms its crown.
Its roots descend
In hardened earth
Where weaker things
Would die at birth.
