But then stupid grandpa who left you a shithole farm is coming to judge you as a ghost after two years and if you don't meet his expectations he gives you the generic "as long as you're happy" speech which really means "I'm disappointed in you"
FU gramps, I was happy doing my office job in the city.
I don’t think it was a shithole when he died. I always understood it as him giving us the letter and dying when we were kids, and it’s just been abandoned, neglected, and overgrown for years.
That being said, I have to deal with parental disappointment anyway, so gimme the free farm.
yeah, it seems like its been at least a few years of working at joja before Farmhand ever actually opens the letter

Downvote and report!
You're saying what's in the intro to the game. The letter sat in a drawer.
I’m willing to consider that I interpreted the opening cutscene wrong, especially as I haven’t watched it for my last several farms. Perhaps it’s just as reasonable that it was only a year ago or something, and you were already at Joja. I think it says “years later” in the transition, but I could be misremembering.
I was happy doing my office job in the city.
Were you, though?
What a monster, wanting you to pet your dog/cat, make new friends, giving you free land.
Wasnt his 'review' even more scathing before too? I seem to recall CA altering it to be less judgemental.
a ghost after two years and if you don't meet his expectations he gives you the generic "as long as you're happy" speech
Lol what's grandpa's criteria?
You can find the various requirements here. You just need to accumulate at least 12 points to get all of the candles lit, but there are quite a few ways to make points.

Did you pet your dog/cat enough
Lies lies and slander, you don't NEED to do anything. I live with my ducks make little profit and couldn't be happier.
I honestly just fish.
Like that's it? You don't go 'splorin or mac on all the single people?
I tried but the relationship stuff stressed me out and i already completed the dungeon so i don't know what else to do.
Build a starfruit wine winery! Or an apple orchard 😉
which dungeon? regular mines? skull cavern? volcano mines on ginger island? i mean however you're playing is the right way to play. but when i finished the CC I didn't know what else to do then I found out about the missing bundle and skull caverns and ginger island and all the quests there and heck there are still things i haven't finished doing to accomplish perfection, like cook every recipe and craft every item, etc. So if you're just out of goals, there are probably more you don't know about that you could set for yourself to put the fun back into it.
Fish on friend, time I every played thats all I did for a year. Love the fishing in the game.
Yes, this! It seems like a lot of this sub focuses on profit, or at the very least the popular posts do, and then there’s me with my vegetable patches living my best life.
And you know what all the power to them, my girlfriend is always trying to figure out how to make a ton of money in our shared farm and im just petting things and off on my next adventure.

How else would I be able to figure whether I'm winning or not? Give me all the profit.
I like having lots of rabbits because the rabbit's foot is a universal love (except Penny), also, bunnies everywhere 🐇🐇🐇
Rabbits also great their sprit is adorable (ok all the animals are)
Yep. It's hard to get out of the mindset that you have to make the most amount of money in the shortest time possible. That's how a game that is supposed to be relaxing and cathartic becomes stressful and chaotic. But once you realize there really is no time limit and you can do whatever you want, it's pretty liberating. Oh, Grandpa is going to come check the farm in the 3rd year? Who cares! He's dead. Screw that guy. But sometimes I do find myself thinking things like "AAAH I NEED TO PLANT AND WATER ALL THE STRAWBERRY PLANTS IN THE GREENHOUSE BEFORE I PASS OUT AT 2 AM!!!" for no other reason than to make sure I get paid a day sooner than if I were to plant them the next day.....why tho?
for no other reason than to make sure I get paid a day sooner than if I were to plant them the next day.....why tho?
I'd rather burn the greenhouse to the ground than have mismatched growth stages. 😤
Right? I just do a few crops and animals, rest of the day I wonder around, pick up stuff and talk to people, then go sleeping early. Sometimes I fish or mine a little. Life's good.
Perfect way to just chill, do a little bit of whatever and just wander and do what you want at the time.
I love how it's an accurate, but utterly boring and unconvincing description of the game it is
this was me last night, realised half way through that my description gives it no credit
I just scrolled for 2 mins and ive seen this 5 times already.
If you like this, then I implore you to check this one out.

Never seen this before. On this sub or otherwise. But then people talk about memes I’ve never seen before all the time!
pretty sure this template is fresh out of the meme oven
That was basically my wife trying to convince me to play it a few years ago. Tried it this year and haven't stopped playing. Haha. It's a fun game.
My friend just told me it was a chill farm game and that's that
Lmao that skull mine always leaves me stressed tf out, ain't chill for me at all down there
Im sorry to tell you but you don't HAVE to turn it profitable
Eh, what's funny is that I'm on year 20 or something and I just farm and go to the mine and fish. I have yet to even talk to one villager who isn't the lady responsible for constructing buildings, and Harvey, and the guy who asks me if I want a cave full of bats or not LMAO.
I feel like the community center and junimos are kind of a glaring omission.
YOU GIVE THE LITTLE APPLE DUDES VEGETABLES AND THEY DO BUILDING REPAIR
If I were to go back in time like a year or so, the silver bullet I'd use to convince myself to try Stardew Valley would be, "You know how Spiritfarer made you feel? Stardew Valley is going to make you feel almost exactly the same way." That would have made me rush out (metaphorically) and buy it right away.
Indoctrination
I pretty much just had this convo last night at a BBQ
I’ve seen this reposted so many times in the last 2 days you couldn’t even crop it properly
TBH I love listening to people tell me about things they’re passionate about. To the point that I’ll sometimes pretend I’ve never heard of something I’m very familiar with
Repost
I started playing Stardew because my cousins were drunkenly complaining about collecting the walnuts on Ginger Island, and I just thought it was the funniest thing out of context that now I HAD to see what this game was about

Is that Emma Chamberlain?
I like this inversion of the meme
And it fits SDV really well since it has a much larger female player base than most other games
Perfect inversion meme. Perfect usage. Golden.
And this is exactly how I describe the game to ppl when I try to get them to play. It never comes out as eloquently as I want, nor does it accurately convey what the game is really like.
You explain it in all caps too, don’t you? lol
Honestly describing it makes it sound terrible lol
"Uh its like farmville and also kind of a visual romance novel sort of with some light combat."
And also the fanbase loves to infodump about the game whatever chance they get (present company included)

Thats so sweet :,)

Really? That's great!
We’ve really recreated hunter/gatherer culture through video games I guess. Women mostly prefer resource management games whereas men mostly prefer first-person shooters & action games
Makes sense; my SO usually beats the shit out of me when we play competitive Civ, lol.
Pretty much exactly how our brains have evolved over the years
Same reason why women prefer social jobs and men prefer analytical jobs
Also I just like normalizing having women excitedly share their interests.
Idk when I ask a guy what he likes it's usually "omg I love this this and this" and with women it's very common they don't want to share their interests unless it's "womanly" but then they think " a guy wouldn't want to hear about knitting" or "he'll think I'm weird if I say I like to game and work on cars.
Fuck no, share your interests! It's not all women and it's not blaming them, society does act kind of weird about women who are enthusiastic about their interests unless it seems decidedly " womanly"
Please. Talk my damn ear off about how you knit a cool sweater, or did a cool trick on a dirt bike, or how you mixed the most gorgeous color of dye, or how you are building a small space craft to shoot into the stratosphere to collect data on tachyons.
Honestly, idgaf what gender you are. Just share your interests with others! It's so much more fun when you do!

The worst thing about that guy is the way hes got his hand on her neck.
