I am your clothes line
I am your clothes line—
Stretch me taught and thin,
Between these two points in space and time.
I hold these dresses at their heaviest,
I hold these fibers cleansed of sin.
I am your clothes line—
Tie me strong against the wind,
Bind my body to this use of mine.
I hold the skins of your future,
I hold these rags when pinched with pins.
And when I tangle,
And when I resist,
And when I drop,
And when I pull,
And when I strain,
And when I break,
And when I fall free and mangled to just once touch green grass,
Always remind me.
I am your clothes line.
