There is something about the night that just gives us perspective into the daylight hours. It's like night is the world hiding underneath all the sunshine. Even the air feels different on your skin. Night is an alternate dimension in which the inverse is revealed.

We sometimes ask for signs in our lives. In this case, OP sought the moon. People sometimes need something to hold on to just to see if they should continue doing one thing or not. Best of luck, OP

So, you do have the premise right, the moon is used as a metaphor, for the person looking at the moon.  How one side is shining (the part everyone loves to see), while the other part is dark (staying hidden from peoples view).  It's about hiding your sadness around other people.

Hey, I would really like to know more about this poem from you OP. I didn't quite understand it, yet, I find it well written and thought-out. As far as I understand, is it about the moon(metaphor) showing you it's dark side(metaphor)?

I'll be honest I'm here to get my two comments, but I did genuinely like this. I don't know how criticising I should be, and whether I have the same angle, as you, but I love the picture it paints. I do get stuck on some words though like and(line 3), that(line 4) and just(line 5).

Perhaps ending it how it began, with something more akin to “looking down into the black, on this dark night” would bring a sense of finality and cohesiveness to the piece, rather than making it seem like you made the same rhyme twice on accident

On this dark night,

With the moon shining so bright,

Show me, my friend, and my foe,

Oh dear moon, I hope tonight, that you'll let me know, 

So then tomorrow, I'll continue my fight,

But the moon stays silent, just in spite,

As I stand, at the top, of this height,

Looking down into the dark, on this night.
