Words and Feelings and Feelings and Words
It’s one thing to know what words mean
It’s another thing entirely to know how they feel
To test its weight on the tip of your tongue
Hold it there a moment, and taste it
I once spoke to you with feeling
With careless abandon
I gave away pieces of my heart
And soul and mind
But always, always I took care
To give you the best part of me
My words
I told you that your eyes
Were a gateway to heaven
When you bothered to look at me
I told you that your smile
Was painted by the gods
While i told myself I should be grateful
For the gifts that are rarest
In truth that’s what it felt like
Like the sky had opened up and let all its Angels out
Just so they could watch us embrace
Like the Universe kept on expanding
And time kept on shifting
And the world kept on going
Just to provide us with fuel for our conversations
And the flames soared around us
Yet to me, feeling fool that I was
They felt cool, refreshing
And afterwards I wrapped myself in the embers
Like it was my favourite song
Now, I talk to you in truths
In yeses and nos and a million words in between
And none of them mean a thing
Because neither of us feels
