being fat is funny

Poem

Fatness floats me to your periphery
Vague outline, unfocused
Reduced to a coerced vision
Your hard lines intolerant of my soft curves
Yet the punchline is I’m fat
Space taken up yet you shrink me
Isn’t that funny?
You see the shape but do you recognize it as human
Just like you

Sauntering onto my weight loss journey
I’m tethered back onto Earth
Anchored into your line of sight
Liberated ship constrained at the dock
Compliance and conformity
Claiming to cultivate comfort

I’m dwindling yet now you see me
Gaining definition before you
I laugh out of self-preservation
I have to keep floating along
And what is comedy if not a way to float along
