OC Poem inspired by Erich Remarque's 'All Quiet on the Western Front'. Not too familiar on form, any feedback appreciated :D
Iron youth, they chant, calling our name;
Our Valour and temperament,
Forged in the cauldron of war.
No end in sight, merciless, cold winter nights,
Heavenly, thunderous pillars of light
Mere metres away from unlocking death’s door.
If only the folk back home could bear to see,
The true capacity for man’s violence.
How the children of our mechanical endeavours,
Act as the Iron foot,
Who stomps man to its knees.
Then they would remove themselves,
From their ideals at heart,
Because when the day of deliverance finally arrives,
The mind and body,
are never apart.
