I like this quiet a bit. I’m thinking the theme is the inevitability of decay and the struggle to “let go” or come to terms with that. A lot of what I read on this sub can border on pretentious, but this remains light hearted while dealing with such a heavy theme. Great job, thank you for sharing!

The struggle and questioning of ones own mortality and how to cope with that before the end is something I think everyone can relate to. Well done OP

Fear holds us back so much. As if time is transactional, that's a hard pill to swallow.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our [feedback guide](https://new.reddit.com/r/ocpoetry/wiki/feedbackcritiques), or look

I know what you’re saying, it’s not pleasant vibes:(

This hits close to home for me. Ever since watching someone die in hospis, I've been terribly afraid to waste away. Thank you for sharing.

The interpretation i have is the way that no matter how meaningful the work you do with your hands, from writing a paper to playing a game, we all meet the same fate. The hands that will wrinkle and age, nothing can stop it; therefore one must do what the hands can hold, nothing more and nothing less. I think a way to make it more symbolic (if that’s what you’re going for) is to add a line that goes something like “one must make a composition from what will eventually decompose, something that will lay in stone even when you’re grey and old”. This makes the rhetoric to me more impactful through the description of what the hands are actually doing ie composing and building things, the hands that lift you up when you fall, all of which adds to the imagery and the symbolism of the poem but overall i loved it!!

eventually.

Will they rot from playing Xbox?

yes, in time.

Rot from reading?

yup, that too.

What about studying, or writing poetry? Surely that won’t let my hands rot.

even this will lead to decay.

But I don’t want that. I want to keep holding onto my hands forever.

let go while you still have hands to hold onto.
