Drunk Text
I guess I’m not as drunk as everyone else.
Else I would be swaying like they are,
Reaching for counters too far and falling,
And laughing.
Why am I not laughing?
Her friends were planning to have her come.
But me? I was an interloper,
Invited by her.
Why did I accept?
I was the exception, the one addition no one expected and I wasn’t supposed to be there because,
Where was her boyfriend?
I wasn’t her boyfriend (anymore).
The more I thought about it, the more it hurt.
The more she kissed me, the less I made it work.
I couldn’t do that.
So I held back. As you fell back I held your back up.
Gave you water and patched you up.
Stumbled with you to the car.
Put you in the seatbelt and made sure-
“Thank you for coming, you should get home. Have a nice night” I was dismissed by your friend.
I get it.
I left.
