When You Left Home

Poem

Being angry has kept me company ,slept next to me on the empty bed you left
So how am I supposed to now forget, that horrid heaving cry I wept ?
Scrunched up like I was 20 years ago inside my mother's womb sounding like I'd just been born
hating how you'd moved on so soon
Just as soon you'd regret .

I wish I knew how to forget
Because even as you say hello again with our shared history at your tongue, behind the smile my heart had kept when it's body had gone,
I remember that you had said you loved me then even when
you'd leave the door broken as you went .
Even when
you'd leave me broken for a new scent .
Of something wild over the horizon far from our farm, where we'd tended till tired over three years long,so many fruits and crops I'd thought would keep us fed even in winters where everything should be dead
But on a dry morning,
I'd first know by turning over, touching the cold of your side with my knowing arm ,
that this home would no longer be where you reside ,you'd chosen to survive outside. Even if it meant you'd starve.
Despite the age of my panic
with your intentions packed it would be to late to ring the alarm
and beg you to take it back
unkiss, unlove
and follow our time back to were I always was
And never left
But with your humble return I won't accept
that desecrated heart, pissed on and marked ,with that scent that had taken you from what was ours
but with your humbled return I'd learnt the acres had only ever been mine.
