Return to Sender

Poem

To you I send

My affections dear

Your favorite things

To hold near

Wrapped in velvet

Tied with string

Many blessings my way you bring

On this package I write your name

To continue

This cat and mouse game

Days have passed

I get no letter

I check the box and read "return to sender"

This love I thought oh so requited

My advances towards you no longer invited

No longer as close as our lips once were

I wish nothing more than to get over her

"I don't feel the same" deep in my chest it stings

But how is it then I came to know your favorite things?

I take my heart off my sleeve

Can no longer face you as I grieve

"I wish you well" my mind speaks

But why is it only those born of trouble you seek?

I can not help you now that you've made this choice

To no longer stand behind your own voice

To be able to help someone is a trick of chance

But to want that help is a different dance

Aaah sweet melancholia, wonder if this is alegoric for having your love returned to you or just pondering over having romantic interest's package returned. Great! You can play with punctuation a bit more when you want to be less explicit." I check the box, "return to sender"" for exaple here you can have the same effect by being less explicit and get those verses to match up!

I wavered between forms of punctuation with this. Wrote it at 3 am while the feelings were clearest. I will revise it once I transfer it into my journal though.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that.
