The change in US politics and how it will develop in game
I've been a bit plugged away from TNO for around two months now and recently I've been trying to keep up on lore changes and upcoming developments.
So from my understanding, the US is getting a change in its lore and its overall political landscape at game start. From what I've gathered the Republicans and Democrats are now back to their OTL ideological placings with new potential candidates in the elections. The RD's are still a coalition but now unclude each parties otliers like Neocons and Dixiecrats. The NPP on the other hand is devolving from a actually political party into a pact mostly made up of populists and pro-war voices.
My main question is mainly on how the NPP is going to develop in game and where are more of the radical voices supposed to fit in. Is Wallace a Dixiecrat and thus longer a NPP candidate or are the Dixiecrats actually part of the NPP? How do the socialists/communist voices begin to take shape in the party? Is it like previous mechanics were the actions of a president will determine the shift in political focus and feeling within the nation? So do NPP folks like Phyllis Schlafly, Hall and Yock only become candidates if the nation is shifting in their political favor like before?

The NPP and RD are now coalitions rather than parties at onset. The NPP is now the progressive party and nationalist party with some minor parties. (Like I think I saw on stream Louisiana has a Longist party that works with the NPP). If RFK is elected the nationalists will probably mostly flee to the Republicans and vice versa with Wallace. As usual only MCS can maybe bridge the divide.
Should be more interesting and dynamic and I’m looking forward to it.
I still don't particularly think it would make much sense for MCS to be NPP with the new lore. The Republicans are now back to being aligned with her interests- there's no more LBJ taking the party's reigns to make her defect.
I think the main thing is the TNOTL Republicans are less interventionist and more "let fascism crumble away because the universe always bends towards justice and liberalism" while Chase called for nuking the USSR in OTL. I'm pretty sure that's the whole thing about the nationalist party: they want to directly fight fascism (or in the case of Yockey, they just appreciate the more racist and authoritarian bent of the nationalists).
I mean you've still got some heavy interventionists in the Republican camp- Goldwater for example. I don't particularly think she'd be too out of place
Looking at his Wikipedia, it seems like you're right. I dunno then, guess the Dev team wanted an authoritarian democrat girlboss and thought it would be really funny if the female president came from the NPP party.
Schlaffly kinda tanks this notion as she is a paleoconservative and an extreme isolationist.
Different factions of the NPPF believe different things. This happened OTL too. Just look at how Scahfley was a hardcore Goldwater supporter even though he was extremely interventionist.
Strongly agree. But removing the only woman presidential candidate would be bad too I think. Would not mind her being reworked in the future though!
Well, she won't be the only woman necessarily; there's still Kirkpatrick and the new Schlafely. But still I wouldn't want her removed either.
Honestly you could just make her the Republican for 1968 and it would work fine. You could maybe move Goldwater down to 1964 to make up for it, and then if anything shaft Bennett who didn't particularly have presidential aspirations or all that interesting a career (inb4 Boat Stablers dogpiles me)
They could make him a Democrat again to make him spin in his grave 50% faster for clean, renewable energy
I think they need to rework the Republicans making them much more dovish (which is hard I admit with Kirkpatrick now being a RD candidate). I think this will allow MCS to shine being the Warhawk that she is portrayed as in game and OTL. Perhaps her presidency can also work in the mechanics of actually forming the NPP into a full fledged party as apposed to a alliance, something other NPP presidents can't properly do.
MCS is one of my favorite presidential options and I think she has the possibility to drive the US and the NPP in an intresting direction of military build up and direct intervention in more conflcits down the line.
Chase is just unable to forgive the Republicans for what happened in the war even if there’s a nationalist subfaction still in them. That’s the main core of the Nationalist Party. Most of them aren’t economically or socially conservative like Scahfley. They just hate the establishment parties for losing the war and being weak.
But yeah Mango confirmed if he could he’d get rid of the NPP and have the Nationalists and Progressives be in coalitions with the Republicans and Democrats. The US facelift is supposed to be relatively “small” though so they didn’t let him lol.
That makes sense. That's basically how I'd want it if I were in their shoes, too (in fact that's how I've said it should be since the Panzer days haha). Maybe one day it'll get to that point. Though man it'll be complicated to figure out the ideology chart with that- the Dems can effectively be SocDem, LibDem, and AuthDem all at once, while you'd still need at least one other ideologies to differentiate liberal Republicans from their ConDem counterparts. Guess we need Market Liberal back lmao
My guess is they’d say the Nationalist have three subfactions. The hawkish Chase faction and the Bircher Schafley faction split off into the Republican Party while the Wallace Segregationist AIP faction went to the Dems.
That does mean that the Rs have only one option for 1964 though, which is the problem I think you’re saying. Tbh I think the best solution is to find someone to name swap into Bennett’s current content who was ACTUALLY a boring do-nothing status quo guy like Panzer wanted.
And then make new content for Bennett that shows him as the huge conservative and Birch adjacent guy he actually was. Bennett wanted to ban all unions irl. He unironically makes Goldwater look moderate. A Bennett Presidency would be very interesting if it actually happened. Very different than depicted in game right now lol. They plan to fix it anyways. Unfortunately though since the US facelift is still supposed to be “small” the Bennett accuracy rework had to be pushed back too 😫
"Longist party"
Finally, some real fucking content!
But for real, is it Earl who is leading it? Or did Huey not die in the Tno-verse?
I think I saw Russel Long was Senator which was my whole basis for saying Longist. I’m actually not sure what TNO lore for Huey is and I think Russel is in Wallace’s cabinet?
I Believe You Can Select Him To Serve In Thurmond's Cabinet, iirc He's A Socially Moderate Populist In The NPP FR.
It was only a matter of time
