Science of Us

Poem

We all weigh.

We all bear weight.

Our mass pulls us together

and pushes us apart.

My gravity affects your orbit.

Your oceans and your physics.

Your gravity affects mine too.

My moon is now misaligned.

Closer, more insistent

and more demanding than before.

The shadows it leaves on me

bigger and colder.

And I dream of your weight bearing down on me.

Pushing into me

as my muscles and bone strain and hold.

The unavoidable changing states of matter.

Going from solid into the ether as I come apart at the seams.

All pieces of stardust.

And return to the pain

that grounds me back to my particles and the consciousness that emerges from them.

The release of structure.

The embrace of chaos.

As the bodies shift and move.

Toward and away.

Pulling on one another.

Altering paths and destinies.

Distorting time and space.

Crashing into each other.

And repelling.

Join. Separate.

Cause. Effect.

Shrink. Grow.

Fast. Slow.

Fire. Ice.

Always changing,

always movement,

always different.

The law of conservation of energy.

Energy is neither created nor destroyed

in the closed system of us

in this moment and in anticipation

for the next moment.

When the gravity pulls us back together

to crash and clash and change and mark.

Outshine

My Hair Looked Great
