What you gave to me
I gave you a little life and birth,
Which you gently gave back to the earth.
The boundless love from me to you,
Found the soil, bore roots and grew.
The Earth is what you gave to me.
The love grew into a Rowan tree,
That blooms on crags, that bravery,
To bring forth bright berries for Autumn’s crown,
When all around in dying down.
That strength is what you gave to me.
And now I see you in every breath of every breeze,
That rustles every leaf of every tree.
My heart dances with each leaf’s joy and mourns for every fall,
And reaches out to cradle them all.
That love is what you gave to me.
I see you in the brightest star,
And yes, a mother’s love can reach that far.
I hold tight to the gifts you gave to me,
But my yearning arms always wish to be,
The one who gave the Earth to you.
