So I tested this with RPCS3 and now demonsouls is fully playable, I wouldn't recommend it as a portable game of course PS3 emulation kills the battery but emulating seems to benefit greatly from changimg this setting.

Are there any negative effects to doing this?

UMA stands for Unified Memory Architecture - it’s how much memory you dedicate to the GPU. Many boards have an auto setting, but it can be set explicitly.
This change is giving it 4GB by default. The side affect would be the system having less RAM available to it.

The main reason is that steamos handles this by default.

YES!! This help a lot with stutters in games :D
99% stutters in game now gone!

Mate, I’m a software developer who literally ported AAA titles to Linux, I’m not scared of the BIOS. It’s more just a quality of life and convenience thing, I didn’t know if someone had wrapped it up in a nice convenient UI, or a way to only change it as and when you need it for certain games.

I did this specifically for halo infinite. I had wonder if it had any dramatic effect on any other games. Good to know.

Only for non-steam games. Steamos handles Uma for steam titles already.

Tldr: Up UMA in the bios from 1 to 4gb.

Oh, for sure, it actually appears to have helped address an issue i was having with Hades crashing. Like i said initially, just dont get why they needed to extend the video to explain it, unless it was specifically for youtube metrics. gotta pump them numbers with 5min videos for "change this one setting in the BIOS" lol
I think the video showcases the difference it makes very nicely.
Previous generations appreciate 4 seconds worth of information being disseminated in 4 seconds. We don't have much time left. Don't hold it against us.

Eh I actually thought it was pretty well done. Only 4 minutes, showed examples of issues like freezes and crashes as well as how simple it was to fix. Could have reordered it probably but still, only 4 instead of 8/10
