a thousand raindrops
As I look around me at
A thousand raindrops, yet again
All landing in a given spot
No care for where, no thought for when.
As one lands it leaves its mark
A declaration, to be clear,
A declaration to the world:
This drop of water landed here.
But why should it have claimed that spot
Right here, right now, before my eye
When every spot seems just as likely
From a cloud so very high?
Their landing seems so random, yet
They land each in their given square.
No other history is seen,
No other what, nor when, nor where.
As I look around me at
A thousand people, yet again
All filling in their given roles of
Stranger, lover, rival, friend.
As one speaks he leaves his mark
A declaration, to be clear
A declaration to my heart:
A friendship strong has started here.
But why should he have talked to me
Right here, right now, in room 05
When every person’s just as likely
To have caught me passing by?
The meeting seems so random, yet
I happened to be walking there
No other history is seen
No other who, nor why, nor where.
A thousand winds above will land
A raindrop on its given part.
A thousand storms of life will lead
A person right into my heart.
