it buries you alive
when you're a child of five
they bury you alive
in the soft sand and sea sweat
til there's nothing that's left
but your feet and sun kissed head
/
it'd be a fine death bed
you, so sapient, so small
as specks that ceaseless crawl
in your nose and mouth, and pass
through you, the hourglass–
/
to taste the tinctures of time
venom in throat does climb
like honey rots baby tooth
jellyfish stung you, youth
your veins still course its resolve
/
tentacles tinsel strands
careless of beauty, mar
you've worn that sacred scar
as a brand from secret rite
and went on swimming in spite
/
some would build a castle
to be their lord and vassal
you wrote book of shorelines
it tattered in fine salt wines–
prussian waves, they scumbled
/
those kingdoms since have crumbled
how did they stand so staunch?
life was the sea in a conch
you'd forgot what triton sought
now you sunbathe in a thought
/
of being a child–
how our dreams would run wild
at the beach tucked in bed
only your feet and your head
laid upon crests of seafoam
/
But until then, go, roam
Leave your footprints in the loam
