White Flag & A Shovel
I like to keep the peace
I don’t like the fight
I can tear up my list pretty easily
That's noble, right?
Or am I just afraid he will
boomerang me with his
Dragging my weakness out
From behind my curtain of nobility
Shaming me on the familiar stage of inadequacies
My lists are like post-it notes
While his mental collections would fill up the Library of Congress
Too heavy to bare
“I’ll show you mine if you show me yours” used to be a fair game
Have I hurt him that badly,
Or am I just blind to my monster within?
We traded vows once
He's amended his since
Never to be hurt again
His armory stockpiled
I could have my own stronghold
Much bigger and mightier
I could pen endless accusations
Filling up a fortress
From floor to ceiling with projectile shells and land mines
Yet I choose a white flag and a shovel
Much easier to carry
Keep the peace
Bury the pain
