Upgrade 2.1 music setup

Speakers - Full Size

Location NE USA

Budget: $800-$1200

Current setup:

MA Silver 200s

sub: ELAC Sub3030

Amp: onkyo tx-nr737

Room: 14’x25’, speakers are on the short wall about 9 ft from listening. I have a rug and bookshelves on the walls, but I can’t do much else for sound proofing.

I listen to rock, jazz, and classical if that’s relevant. I particularly like hearing details in the strings.

I am considering the Musical fidelity b1xi, or the Cambridge CXA81 my II, but I’m having difficulty comparing. I was able to demo the b1xi in a store with my speakers and was impressed.

I have also considered upgrading subwoofer and selling it, but unsure of the cost/benefit.

Ultimately I am having a hard time

Hello,

I am curious what other people do. I have a suboptimal room layout show below. I am sure that is not uncommon, but I have had issues making it audiophile since there's a lot of limitations.

Do other people have a 'audiophile setup' for detailed listening, and then a cheaper 5.1 space? I live in an apartment so I am somewhat constrained on space, but I might be able to move some bookshelf speakers to the dining room and make it more of a sitting room.

The room (12×25 ft):

Hello, there is a provison in the offer letter for a new position that seemed fairly restrictive to me. I wanted to consult a lawyer, but it looks like the soonest meeting I can get is Monday. Ultimately I believe that 'indirectly' portion seems overly broad. Company is a biotech software company.

This is my first 'senior' level position at a company, and so my questions are as follows:

  1. How restrictive is it?

  2. Is this fairly common?

  3. If I were to pushback, what would be a good thing to ask for. The company is a startup, about 25 people, and I would be reporting to the COO. Would it be common to ask for garden leave? What is a common reasonable req

Hello, I am a bioinformaticist (8 YOE + Masters) in Biotech right now and am interested in switching to Data Engineering.

What I have found so far, is I have a lot of skills that are either DE adjacent, or DE under a different name. For example, I haven't heard anyone call it ETL, but I work on 'instrument connectivity' and 'data portals'. From what I have seen online, these are very similar processes. I have experience in data modeling creating database schemas, and mapping data flow. Although I have never used 'Airflow' I have created many nextflow pipelines (which seem to just all be under the 'data flow orchestration' umbrella).

My question is how do I market myself to Data engineering

Network is dropping

New Post - Tech Support

My network is consistently dropping in the evening, around 5-7 times a week. I tried troubleshooting on the app and it doesn’t give me any options. The devices are all hardwired with Ethernet. I tried to access the system logs from the xfinity gateway and they do not generate.

I would like to have a technician come out and investigate the quality of the cables, I live in an old building and suspect the jack might need to be replaced.

Unfortunately had a rough month where my amp broke and my VM95ML stylus bent.

For reference my speakers are MA silver bookshelf speakers. For $500-$600 range, what would you recommend for stylus, preamp (opt), and amplifier?

Hello, currently I have an unraid server where I host a few apps (nextcloud, plex) accessible via my purchased domain (nextcloud.mydomain.com). Is there a security benefit to requiring the Tailscale, assuming I have a robust password to login to nextcloud?

Thanks, I set up a lot of my server stuff 6 years ago or so and haven't put much thought in what might be the best practices today.

Hello? I have an unRAID server that runs

- plex

- Nextcloud

- general nas storage

- misc apps like boundary.

I have a handful of smart home devices

I have 3 computers I want to be in WiFi.

Ideally I’d like to have the unRAID, private, and smart home devices in a separate networks.

I also currently have 2 dead spots in my 1300 square foot apartment, lots of thick walls. I don’t mind wiring.

Is ubiquiti + an AP worth, is this acocompkishable with my router (one of the netgear nighthawks) and unRAID?

Any recommendations? Networking is a bit outside my knowledge area.

Thanks.

My wife has been rewatching monk on prime, was thinking of getting it on disk for her. How would the blu ray vs regular dvd compare to the prime quality?

Thanks
