Snitches in sales jobs

Sales Topic General Discussion

Why is there always a 40 something divorceé or first time employee in every sales career named Linda, Lauren, LeAnn, Nick, Brian, Emily, Pam, or Steve who isn’t great at selling but is great at gossiping, snitching to the boss, and instigating—whose ambition is unbridled, but whose work ethic is meh?

Usually they idolize Grant Cardone it seems like. Is this some sort of cardinal rule that every corporate job has to have one of these people in 2025, and they have to have one of those names? Noticing a pattern the older I get and can’t ignore it any more. Can’t go on living like this without knowing if anyone else has noticed

No shade here, I respect the hustle, but it’s too common to be so

Weird that they seem to have scrubbed (or de-boosted) Doug emhoff’s lengthy ties to China via DLA Piper, particularly the hotly contested practice of stolen IP used to cheaply produce products that further lead to offshoring of important, middle class manufacturing jobs in the US and create cycles of poverty. And his defense of the accused. But who cares, right? They’re rich. That’s what matters. Surely his wife would never engage in these kinds of things or encourage them. Obviously, she is more concerned about the average poor white rural red voter than her own fina

I remember a time when people collectively agreed that kingmakers and handouts from kings were less impressive and significantly less “American dream” than someone who uses skill, hard work, a good idea, and objectively better whatever to achieve something. This used to be an ideal—and though nepotism was VERY common, we at least as a society frowned upon it and generally knew it was a distasteful thing. People hid the benefits given to them from their forebears. Lately, I am seeing troves of academic research extolling the virtues that nepotism “ain’t that bad,” “isn’t that harmful,” and generally seemingly pushing people toward the thought that (by depriving ourselves of things that could

Any hunters out there who survived 3+ years of account management successfully with goal of advancing back into a Hunter role? At an old school shop I really like, but not being able to hunt net new is killing me. The hierarchy is strong seeing as how many old school folks are around, actual Hunter roles seem to be a position granted based on tenure or familial connections. That doesn’t bother me because I’m confident I can prove myself, just trying to determine if I’ll lose my mind farming for the next two years at a slow pace and feeling like I’m losing some of the skills that make the game worth the stress. Advice from anyone who’s been here please?!?!?! Killing myself by managing less t

Look into the largest PBMs’ current majority ownership. An enlightening destruction of competition in a pretty important industry. Aren’t you glad the government solved the number one cause of bankruptcy by making us dependent on the backward, “technically helping” monopolies that abuse and manipulate markets? That fake prices to prove they’ve “offered discounts to the uninsured?” And pocket the extra? Then intentionally obfuscate data surrounding average PBM employee pay to make it seem like they’re just average joes doing the right thing? This conspiracy started before people started seriously analyzing prescription prices. Everyone in the industry knows PBMs are snakes. Outside of it, mos

So national reporting requirements have changed for what triggers cases to be included in national crime statistic info. This should be front page in every media publication, especially if it will improve reporting standards. Hint: it probably won’t.

I’ve seen a larger than usual amount of propaganda extolling the virtues of NOT paying off your mortgage and instead investing the money you could use to be free from a mortgage to invest. That would be great advice save for rising inflation rates in combo with the fact a lot of banks currently are struggling with assets. People on financial forums in mainstream social media have begun to get unreasonably aggressive toward anyone who suggests paying down your mortgage. We all know the psychology of the psyop—don’t want to be in the “illogical” outgroup that doesn’t listen to reason! So they play on peoples’ emotions about appearing wise, financially intelligent, and heavily propagandize that

Thinking about modern calls for police reform, I realized a lot of the “community policing” models being put forth would by and large benefit some of my friends whose parents, often academics or literal rocket scientists, paid for their degree in psychology. I am also noticing a LARGE number of children of the filthy rich becoming teachers. Usually, this would be meaningless, but I can’t help but wonder…. Police officer used to be a job for veterans with physical strength. Most people can agree that the propaganda of late is pretty successful, but even so, psychologists don’t really make that cake like physical scientists do (ya know, replicability and all). Anyways, as I am moving throughou

Not sure if this is the right sub, but I am currently experiencing a kind of jarring situation. Having been in sales for ~10 years, I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve never experienced this to this degree because I’ve either been out in the field or too busy focused on making money to pay attention.

But this has become enough of a concern that I’m seeking advice preferably from someone within a leadership position. I am convinced our boss realizes this, but I can also see how some of the internal relationships may complicate navigation of the issue.

Anyways, a middle aged man is engaging in very common passive aggression, outright aggression, and constant gossip about team members. NBD

I have some questions and wasn’t sure if anyone has ever encountered something similar to this. Because of the job market, have a friend dipping toes into talks with recruiters and he keeps hearing a common objection, usually by the second or third round of interviews: “we don’t have great success with hires from -current company-. They aren’t very adaptable and this is a much more complicated sale.” Usually, he segues into how the particulars of current role are exactly why he’s searching, how some of the negatives are good indicators that he’s flexible and adaptable in any situation, and having asked for questions about overall fit and ideal candidate qualities, attempts to overcome this

How long would you say it takes in a position that encourages bad habits to lose some fundamentally foundational sales skills? Always thought it was like riding a bike, but trying to do some research and would like some different perspectives. Is it possible to lose things like active listening skills, empathy, and strategic planning skills by not using them? Do you think it’s possible to lose things like interpersonal/relationship development skills? Would like some perspectives.

Throw me your terrible sales job horror stories. Bad products, terrible leadership, physically exhausting grind, hyper-political, whatever it may be—with hindsight, and out of the daily hustle, did your perspective or your mindset shift about the experience? Are you grateful for the experience and would you learn/experience it again? How long did it take you to recognize that your BS:paycheck ratio wasn’t working out for you? Also wondering: how long did it take you to realize what your ‘bullshit I’m willing to put up with:how much I need to be making consistently to put up with it’ was? How sustainable was your terrible sales job? Would love to hear from some of the horror places we frequen
