I’ve been here for just a couple days and I’m not sure how to ask for a QR code payment. I’ve tried asking for “prompt pay” or “scan” or “QR code” and every combination of the three, but no one has any idea what I’m talking about. Sometimes I pullout my deep pocket app (prompt pay for tourists) and use the scan to pay feature and show them my phone screen and occasionally someone will realize what I’m asking for, but usually they have a confused face regardless of what I show or how I ask.

Even Google translate is useless as they always look confused after reading the Thai translation.

What are the exact words I should say to communicate I want to pay by scanning a QR code? I’m a native

I’ve noticed about 25% of the restaurants or convenience stores I’ve visited have a QR code that only accepts USD. I don’t have any USD in my Bakong account, I have riels, but so many places won’t accept riels. I was under the impression that Cambodia was trying to move away from the dollar, but it’s so hard to pay for things with riels through QR code.

Planning to donate $400 to the Liberals, just curious what the difference is between donating to the party, vs directing the donation to Mark Carney. I assume either way the funds will be used by the party for the next federal election, and that directing to Carney would increase his "Fundraised by Carney" numbers. Just wanted to see if I'm missing anything, or if there's any other implications of directing to Carney vs the party overall.

I'm planning to quit my job and travel the world later this year anywhere from 4-12+ months. Almost my entire net worth is at Wealthsimple, and they say if I am outside Canada for 6 months, they will restrict all transactions on my accounts so that I can't do anything until I'm back in Canada.

I told them that I'm not moving anywhere, I'm not becoming a resident of any other country, I'm literally just backpacking across Asia and Europe and wherever else I might go, probably not staying in any individual city for more than 1-2 weeks, but they said you're still considered a non-resident if you're gone for more than 6 months, no exceptions. I have confirmed this 3 times on 3 separate calls wi

I'm pro-choice, and think abortion is perfectly fine before 20 weeks of pregnancy, which is about halfway through the second trimester, however abortion would be essentially killing a child after that. Below I've laid out my reasoning for this position and have pre-addressed some of the anticipated objections. Basically, my question is directed primarily to pro-choice people who support abortion after 20 weeks, but I can easily see a good general debate around this issue. The question is this, after reading the entirety of my post, what is your justification for abortion after 20 weeks excluding cases where the mothers life is at risk?

This may not be controversial here, but I’ve often heard that all religions are good, or that all religions are equally bad. And to single out any religion is to be racist or otherwise intolerant. But this just isn’t true.

Specific doctrines lead to specific consequences. Case in point, the Islamic belief in martyrdom, which states that dying in service of the faith is the highest honour, and will grant you eternity in paradise. No other major religion (at least not Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism or Buddhism) has this concept of martyrdom.

So why do I even bother bringing this up? Because martyrdom is the basis for suicide bombings. There’s a reason there are way more Muslim suicid

CASH.TO is an ETF that holds savings accounts and pays 4.7% ish. The default share price is $50 and it increases every day ish and ends up at something like $50.20. On the last day of the month, the price resets back to 50, and about 10 days later they pay out 20 cents per share in cash to your account.

But, if you sell right before the distribution, you would theoretically gain the same 20 cents per share (about 4.5-5%) and cut your taxes in half in a non-registered account.

Would the CRA look at those series of trades every month and conclude that you're conducting a business/day trading/whatever you might call it, and therefore you have to pay full taxes on everything? And would they

The rationale behind it is admirable, an insurance policy in case the LRT breaks down majorly during the opening weeks. But here's the thing, the whole point of LRT is to eliminate buses downtown, and to have buses connect at the ends of the line + hurdman mostly. This solves the 2 major problems with the old buses.

1: Super long routes like the 45 km route 95 that constantly get delayed because of how long it is. Small delays add up. Delays in Orleans and downtown will affect your bus from Algonquin to Barrhaven.

2: Buses get stuck in traffic downtown, causing massive delays across the city. A bus stuck in downtown will delay your bus from Blair to Orleans.

LRT solves both of these be
