MetroNet (now T-Fiber) recently ran fiber through my neighborhood. T-Fiber mailed an offer for Founders 2 gig at $70 a month guaranteed for 10 years. This sounds good compared to $77 for 480Mbps from Xfinity (which will probably go up, yet again, early next year.)

I have reservations with T-Fiber because they don’t say how much the fees are up front and they don’t guarantee that the fees won’t go up significantly during that time.

I’m leery after my experience with CenturyLink where they low-balled the advertised price and added gratuitous fees that significantly raised the actual monthly cost of the service. As much as Xfinity annoys me with their constant price increases, at least their

On July 29, Netgear released new firmware EAX20-EAX18-V1.0.1.68_1.0.106 which seems to have a bug. I have a DNS entry "netgear_eax20.internal" I use to access the management page, but after the update, I get a "Secure connection failed" error. This happens with Firefox, Safari and Edge. It works if I connect with the IP address, but the address is much less memorable so I prefer a meaningful name.

Here's the situation: I have 300/20 service and am seeing a pretty consistent download speed of 350-360 Mbps. For the past month since my upload speed increased from 5 Mbps to 20 Mbps, I had been seeing 22-24 Mbps upload speeds. Sometime on April 6 or 7 the upload speeds dropped below 1 Mbps with occasional periods of normal 22-24 Mbps.

I had a tech out to try to resolve the problem. He eliminated my modem and inside wiring as the source and verified that the problem was present at the demarc. His tester showed a steady 1.88 Gbps download but only 6-8 Mbps upload at the demarc. He checked the pedestal and found that rodents had chewed through the insulation on the cable to my house and repl

I’m wondering if anyone else has this problem. I have several Windows 10 and Linux PCs which have their Firefox settings synced. Firefox on the Windows boxes keeps turning on the “Recommend extensions as you browse” and the “Recommend features as you browse” options and on Linux the “Play DRM-controlled content” and “Use autoscrolling” options keep turning off. I’ve tried setting the options on all the PCs at the same time and individually, but the settings never stay put.

I’m currently running Firefox 95.0, but this has been happening for at least months now and it’s really getting irritating.

I came across an odd problem with unbound. "meet.jit.si" doesn't resolve via unbound, but does via cloudflared. Unbound seems to be working for other sites though. The following are lookups using unbound on port 5335 and cloudflared on port 5053.

Here cloudflared resolves fine

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ dig meet.jit.si @127.0.0.1 -p 5053

; <<>> DiG 9.11.5-P4-5.1+deb10u1-Raspbian <<>> meet.jit.si @127.0.0.1 -p 5053
