hello ! i recently just picked up reading as a hobby for the first time in years, and i was wondering if anybody had recommendations as to how to jump back into it. my goal is to eventually get to literary fictions/classics like wuthering heights, frankenstein, moby dick, count of monte cristo, but obviously i can’t jump straight into it.

i’ve read dr. jekyll and mr. hyde and a bunch of lovecraft’s novellas and shorts (call of cthulhu, at the mountains of madness, the nameless city, dagon, and the shadow of innsmouth). i’m currently reading invisible man by h.g. wells which i’m liking a lot. lovecraft is a good writer but sometimes a little too scientific to be as engaging as i want it to b

i’m looking for movies that have gothic elements but don’t necessarily take place in gothic settings

i just watched black narcissus and it scratched an itch that i’ve needed to scratch for so long. i’m looking for anything that is in the vein of black narcissus, vertigo, picnic at hanging rock. dramas or mysteries with heavy foreboding atmospheres that could dive into some horror as well. i loved black narcissus’ descent from a drama into a horror in its climax

let me know!!

okay movies i’ve watched so far

  1. ringu
  2. carnival of souls
  3. eyes without a face
  4. possessor
  5. the blair witch project
  6. texas chainsaw massacre
  7. the black phone
  8. caveat
  9. oddity
  10. black phone 2
  11. MadS
  12. the empty man

looking for anything for ranging horror classics to art house horror. i’ve been digging psychedelic horror recently especially after watching MadS and possessor. i love horror that leaves an impression after and makes you really think. i also love ghost horror as well.

things i don’t like is grimy/grindhouse horror so like house of 1000 corpses and hostel. i did like texas chainsaw massacre but that was kind of pushing it for me.

i’ve seen a lot of hor

i’m looking to add picks to my watchlist and specifically letterboxd list “i’m not a violent dog, i don’t know why i bite” which is movies about characters who want to be more than their inherently bad or violent nature or characters who have tough exteriors but are actually just scared and vulnerable

i posted looking to letterboxd subreddit for suggestions, but the conversation was definitely not productive as i would have hoped, with some exceptions

the picks include: the iron giant, good will hunting, drive, moonlight, the place beyond the pines, logan, isle of dogs (given the quote is from that movie), city of god, the fox and the hound

let me know what you guys would suggest!

hey guys ! i’m in charge of leading a discussion for my movie club’s next meeting, and i’m narrowing it down between these three

First off, my ultimate goal is to pick a spooky movie for october (our next meeting is in october) that people will like and will cause us to have a lot of discussion. some of the people aren’t the most diverse movie watchers/are more average movie enjoyers (which is totally okay!), so i want something that is somewhat accessible but also expands their horizons in a tangible way.

i’m picking between kwaidan, pulse (2001), and the original ring (ringu).

kwaidan is a movie that is just so well-revered and it looks like a beautiful movie that could cause lots of di

i know reno posts unreleased quadeca songs and i generally know what all of them are from but what is the album “dying in the house you call home?” is it more unreleased IDMTHY rips or something else?

my apologies if this has already been answered, i just can’t find anything

okay spoilers for those who haven’t played the game (which i assume like all of you have but i’m not trying to get skinned alive)

i’m at the point where i have the choice of giving up songbird to reed and the FIA. i sided with songbird during the hansen mission, but after i learned that she fucked me over to save herself, i’m in a bit of a pickle

for context, the reason i chose to side with songbird is because my V is a merc vigilante assassin. he dishes out justice as he sees fit, and generally does the right thing. i even have a load out for him that is a non lethal loadout, so that he doesn’t kill lower class people like guards and stuff like that. his main goal is to help the disenfran

i don’t know if it’s bc y’all don’t go outside or what not, but y’all can’t make up your minds.

not that long ago, this sub was basically one big shitpost for the last of us part II. everyone in this sub HATES this game, but now that the second season of the show is out, you guys suddenly love the game?? and think it’s so much better than the show?? what’s with the switch-up?? you can dislike the show, idrc, but just like make up your minds. it’s so funny to see this sub praise the game for its nuance because the way the show has simplified it, when not that long ago, that nuance was shitty writing and bad narrative.

also the way you guys talk about bella ramsey on this sub is really wei

title is self explanatory

i want to create a hitman/assassin vigilante for hire. i’m going with the solo build, but don’t want to be a soldier/tank. i’m envisioning him to be like an agent 47/leon the professional type character. silent but deadly, likes to be in-n-out without a trace, moves like a ghost. he’s incredibly good with close range encounters. he utilizes a silenced pistol and ideally a silenced rifle (not sniper).

is this too unrealistic? it is my first time creating a cyberpunk character so let me know. if it is realistic and achievable, what should i invest in my character sheet to get this build? (skills, cyberware, stats, etc.)
