  • No social media apps on phone (FB, insta, youtube)
  • YT settings configured to not store my history, which (nicely) means YT doesn't try to feed me any videos or shorts
  • Browser on phone is locked down with ScreenZen, forces me to wait 30 seconds, and then limits me to 5 minutes of browser time
  • Kindle app with a good book on the phone

I end up reading a novel on my phone when my bored/distracted cycles kick in. And I move to a laptop or ipad when I really need to do something with a browser.

We'll see how long it lasts, but so far, so good.

My teacher played a salsa song that used the exact melody as Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House.

Anybody know what it's called? Google isn't helping much. Didn't sound like the lyrics were a translation of the original from what I could tell. But same melody and chords for verse and chorus.

This is inspired by the recent post about differentiating between the 1 and 5, but I have a different question.

For those who can generally tell where the 1 is and where the 5 is, what do you do when it reverses?

Leads, do you switch up to get back with the music as soon as possible by doing something like Robin suggests in this video (e.g. just going forward twice in a row for on 1): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVriraVW0pQ&t=321s&pp=ygUbU2Fsc2EgaG93IHRvIHN3aXRjaCAxIGFuZCA1

And if you know the song well do you actually try to switch it up at the same time the song switches?

And follows, do you expect or care if the leader does this right away? Or are you ok being off until the song s

It seems common to build a sequence of moves in class and then drill it, so the followers always know what's coming.

Anybody try teaching like this:

  1. Pick a few moves appropriate to the level and make sure everyone knows them.
  2. Tell leaders to try their own sequence of those moves for a minute and see if followers can follow
  3. Rotate!

Obviously you get this kind of feedback in real social dancing, but I feel like it could be helpful during classes.

Or would this be too chaotic in a class? Just curious if this is a thing.

Can anyone tell me how many inches there are in the trunk from the rear end up to the back of the front seats?

In other words, how long of an object can I fit there with the rear seats folded down (without going diagonal)?

Sorry if this is a repeat, I spent awhile searching.

Thanks

Suppose I'm mixing a set out of songs ranging from 100 BPM to 115 BPM. Is it common to do something like this:

  • play song A at its original 100BPM.
  • song B is originally 101. Mix it into song A at 100, then after(?) the transition, raise it back to 101.
  • song C is originally 102. Mix it into song B at 101, then raise it back to 102, and so on.

Is this what people do for hip-hop/rnb/pop? Or is it more like

  • mix a few songs into the exact same tempo of 100.
  • do a clean, sudden transition to a new song at 104.
  • mix a few songs into the exact same tempo of 104.

I see lots of info on YouTube for matching two songs, but not much about how to string together a whole set.

Thanks for your

46 year old noob here. I've been at it for a few months. Squatting 185 lbs now.

I haven't failed a squat yet, although I deloaded a couple times to work on form. (As opposed to OHP, which I fail almost every workout).

I saw Mehdi's video of failing a squat, and that didn't look too bad. Is that how it usually goes?

Somehow when I'm squatting it feels like failing would be catastrophic. Just want to hear how it usually goes for people, do you get used to it, anything to watch out for, etc.

Yes I'm using a rack.

Thanks!
